Android 2.2 Froyo manual update found, now available for select Nexus One devices
It was only a matter of time. The direct link to download the Android 2.2 "Froyo" update from Google's servers has been found. According to XDA-Developers, it only works if you have a "non-rooted stock ERE27 system" Nexus One. Meet the requirements? Can't wait any longer? Download link below.
Update: Want no pre-conditions? Here's another link, albeit less official so proceed at your own risk. [Thanks, Justin!]

@ChazClout Mushroom! Mushroom!
@panckakes
lolwut?
An entire thread got deleted. What happened.. ?
@SolidSnake
Someone DELETED ChazClout first post and more than 15 replies to him, WHY?
@Beatnik
The only reason I can think of is because I used the F--- word. I think I wrote:
"I've already done it..... AND IT'S F****** AWESOME
Flash is a plus too.... Badger badger badger....."
I'll suppress my urge for casual swearing for now. :(
@ChazClout
Installed Froyo this morning 5:30am, its ultrafast, very responsive, pinch to zoom smoother, more options on camera, more than 200 MB free of internal memory (with 87 apps installed).
I used this tutorial:

@Beatnik
Forgot to mention FLASH, downloaded it from the market, works perfect another thing is the battery last longer than ever.
All I have to say is those of the fruit company BLEW IT.
Damn, I'm rooted.
@Hotrod
Im rooted to but i went back to stock and did the manual update & it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i didnt even change the recovery image (im a noob at all this) when i tried going into it from recovery mode it wouldnt let me so i guess it changed it back once i went back to stock. Anyways i got my update!!!!
@Hotrod
& theres 360 rotation in 2.2 no one seemed to mention that!!
@smussad what do you mean by that?
@Hotrod If you have the stock ROM you'll still be able to update even if you're rooted. Was able to update my rooted Nexus One with the stock ROM a couple of minutes ago, even got root back thanks to Cyanogen.

@Hotrod You can flash ROM from Paul (MoDaCo):

Just upgraded from Cyanogen MOD and everything work fine.
@Hotrod Thanks guys. I flashed Pauls ROM, all is working well! I recommend a full wipe, and have good battery life when flashing (flashes radio as well).
@smussad
Actually 270degee's. but still this was one hello-va trip!!! 2.2 awesomes!
@smussad This just mean that the whole N1 update will be sooner than what we expected. Opinions. http://j.mp/froyo-android-impressions
I see all this news about the Nexus One, but what about the Motorola DROID? When are us DROID owners getting Froyo? How does Flash on a DROID with Froyo run?
@Mikee
Inquiring minds want to know....
@Mikee Nexus One is Google's Phone, it has priority over other android phones because it doesn't have to go through another manufacturer for an update. For your Droid you'll have to wait until Moto pushes the rom, and then it has to go through Verizon.
While the Nexus One is Google -> Phone.
@WilliamNighthawk Yeah, but the Droid runs stock Android with no skins, it should be simple.
@Mikee Didn't it take like half a year for the Droid to get 2.1? I wouldn't hold my breath for 2.2.
@jjrudey Simple is a relative term; I'm sure XDA is going to work on the rom for Droid owners soon, but currently you'll have to wait.
@Mikee I still don't like your nuts...
@cherubdawg Moto got 2.1 pretty quick for the droid actually, comapred to samsung and HTC. Since it isnt skinned, it should be simple, 2-3 days of development and some 2-3 weeks of testing
@WilliamNighthawk My post wasn't really pointed at Google, but rather at Motorola and Engadget. It would be nice if Engadget would post some more info, or even try to inquire about the DROID's potential update.
The DROID was the best selling Android phone, so it would be nice to hear some more Froyo news about it. Amirite?
@Mikee ^.^ My post was more to point out that Engadget can't report on something they have no information on, instead they have to report on what they know. Anyone could make a wild guess about when Moto will give you Froyo but you want a direct answer and no one but Moto has that.
@Mikee It shouldn't take more than half a year even if motorola is focused only on their upcoming devices.
Rooted people, hang tight. Paul will have a patched update very shortly: http://twitter.com/PaulOBrien/status/14512924819
@anstosa
The only reason I rooted my Droid was to get Wireless Tethering. What do N1 users get besides that? 2.2 has almost everything you need!
@bravokiloromeo
LED flash as a flashlight, Adblocker [browser & apps], Titanium Backup, MetaMorph [for theming], the list goes on.
@anstosa In 2.2 you can enable the led as a light in video recording mode... just sayin
@ChazClout downloading it right now
will be getting back to report :)
does anybody know if arabic support is coming or if there is a way to get it ?
I'll assume this only works on the T-Mobile version as I have a non-rooted AT&T version and the update failed on mine.
@girardsays
I can't do it either. I have the AT&T version.
@girardsays
The AT&T Nexus One as far as I've seen has the ERE54 update, newer than the ERE27 firmware that's apparently required. You may need to flash a stock ERE27 first, then try to update.
@Level 5
Thanks for the tip! I'm just gonna wait on the OTA update unless an update compatible with my N1 comes out before then.
@girardsays same here. Wish us AT&T users would get a status update on our update.
@hebrewknight I see the version on my Nexus One as EPE54B (not ERE54). It is AT&T. Am I missing something or could this be the right version?
@girardsays
what if i have the t-mo version but im on the AT&T network?
@viditbhargava I have the EPE54B build as well, and I got mine just last week. Tried the update...no luck, 2.1 can certainly pull its weight until Google releases the official update for the AT&T version. Wish I can have 2.2 now, but oh well.
@girardsays No it works on the AT&T version. But it doesn't work if your have Build number EPE54B, firmware version 2.1update1.
How long do you think it will take for this to be ported to rooted Droids?
Downloading now!
*Looks at Nexus One*
"Don't worry Alexis, daddy is about to give you some new shiny things"
Lets get this bad boy on the Droid...
:D
@EggoEspada
DROOOOIIID. Meet. Froyo.
just did it! so fast love it!
Nice! I hope this trick works for the HTC Evo :)
Wow! Google is really working hard on this Android OS. I have never seen them really competing before.
looking forward to this as soon as i get home!
hey will my apps stay there or everything will be wiped anybody tell me
@jalal20
It keeps all your apps and settings. I guess you could still back everything up just in case if you're worried about it, but I didn't lose anything with the update.
