DARPA program will detect your anomalous behavior, eliminate you
Crime prevention is boring -- crime prediction, on the other hand, is tres exciting! Indeed, we've seen a few pre-crime projects in the past, but very little that existed outside the realm of cockamamie. That is, until we laid eyes on a new project from DARPA called SMITE (or Suspected Malicious Insider Threat Elimination). This one actually seems -- dare we say it? -- feasible. Details are sketchy (they're still in the RFI stages) but essentially the idea is to create a database of actions that correspond to "malicious" behavior; for instance, espionage. It's hoped that behaviors can be detected before they lead to an actual crime, which leads to all sorts of ethical and philosophic questions that we quite frankly don't have the energy to ponder on a Friday afternoon. Luckily for all of us, this is DARPA we're talking about -- so chances are this won't go anywhere. But if it does? As The Register kindly points out, the "e" in SMITE stands for "elimination." Nice. Did this bring dharma initiative to mind for anyone else? Sorry random lost reference.
Skynet is here under codename SMITE. It will eliminate all of those who download pirated media. Shit, thats everyone.
Dharma sounds like to me man I am so ready for lost tonight woohoo
this is actually a time machine... to 1984
and of course a crime is what ever the state says it is ..
it was the beginning of the end for humanity when the ruling class was able to convince the people that obeying the LAW was some sort of moral issue ..
the state creates criminals .. the LAW has nothing to do with morality ..

Writing is about 6000 years old so before that we need to infer history from settlement remains and fossils. The first calender is about that too, Sumerian (same as writing) though it's still in use as the Jewish Calender (It's the year 5770 now). There are those who believe the bible is the literal, handed from God Truth, that believe this calender starts from the moment of creation instead of when some Sumarian figured out he could write this stuff down
This is what all those Twiter, and Facebook status updates have come to. Each time we say what we are doing on Twiter, be that washing the dog, or washing your tank DARPA knows. The thing is this could led to a lot of confusion because words can be taken out of context so easily, and before you know it your on the no fly list because you where talking about a new James Patterson novel on, and you happen to have the word murder in your status. Just remember the next time you up date your status you are telling on your self to big brother.
My question is simply this:
If DARPA create's SMITE.... Would DARPA be the first thing eliminated... followed by SMITE eliminating itself?
Or did someone put some exceptions in....
@jjdb210 Haha....... Good idea!! +100,000 for you!!
Someone should terminate these out of control clowns.
I teach high school. That's the real staple of pre-crime.
From all the James Bond movies I've seen- "elimination" means kill. If you are predicted to do a crime, you will be killed.
Better not steal that candybar motherf^ucker. Your a^s is grass.
Mr. Anderson, my name is SMITE, Agent SMITE.
Makes you think twice about the 'survailence act' passed a few years back that permits the government to tap anyone they suspect to be in alquaida.
Wonder where they get the data for this system?? Maybe the government suspects us all??!!
Save us Tom Cruise!
Wow, you guys only now noticing this? I've been predicting the development of such a system going back to when we were all scared of being tagged by RFID equiped ID cards. Now, there's no need for the RFID element, since we all now carry location aware, personal information aggrigators with us of our own free will. You call them cellular phones.
As they've become more powerful, the more info about us we allow them to store, such as contacts, appointments, photographs and even our favorite songs/movies/games.
And it's not just info that's directly available on the phone either, there's also relative information being generated about us, simply by the phone's proximity to your common carry info. Think about it... how often is your cell phone more than a few feet from your wallet or purse? In turn, that means your credit/debit card or driver's license can be safely assumed to be near your cell phone's GPS location within a few feet.
A system like this would only need to log financial transactions and GPS data for a few weeks to create a baseline profile of your "normal" activity, then would simply need to "flag" you on some watch list in the event your activity deviates from your normal data by more than a few percent. (Say, you buy a burger at a fast food joint 35 miles out of the way of where you'd normally be at a certain time and day... and then have other deviations immediately after over a period of 48 hours....etc...)
It could get even scarier if advanced data aggrigation and search gets introduced into our portable devices... such as the one Apple purchased a few weeks back, which could be integrated into the iPhone/iPad and any devices they sync with.
They still have to actually observe you commit a crime to charge you with something.
The better they can use their time the better I say. If ol' grandma isn't a threat then don't follow her. If Mr. Nitrate Fertilizer guy is also making a lot of diesel purchases as of late... put a tail on him and see what he's up to.
