Intel to announce dedicated tablet silicon at Computex
During this morning's press conference on the new Core i3, i5 and i7 ULV processors, Intel PC Client Group Vice President Mooly Eden revealed that Chipzilla will launch that special "tablet solution" we had heard about at Computex next week. No details were given on this "dedicated silicon for the tablet space," but we can assume that it's going to fall into the Atom line up. Whether it will be an extension of the Moorestown family or just be an outgrowth of the Pineview platform found in netbooks and nettops remains to be seen, but you can bet on us listening up for more info when we're live from Taipei next week. Hit the link below if you want to hear this guy spill the beans.

@bigsofty
Intel thinks they know graphics like Mooly Eden thinks he knows how to look hip for the youngsters.
It better be actually good. Not this "Moorestown" crap.
@CJisohsocool Make it good so we can have some good competition going on here. I want to see something competing against ARM, even though ARM is plenty complicated from an econ standpoint. I assume the Qualcomms compete against the Samsungs, etc., but still a different type of chip being able to run a full OS, for the same type of reasons I don't want Intel, any chip maker or any OS to dominate in any tech market.
I was wondering and if anyone knows....do you think it would be possible to use the ulv i3 to make a tablet?
maybe use a 6-cell battery...just a though
It seems he just spotted my AT-ATs coming for him through his invisible binoculars. Can we look forward for invisible binoculars at Computex?
@Lord Vader Fail.
@Evster88. Silence you. I'll have you know i was up all night trying to retrieve stolen plans from Bothan Spies. They kept going invisible and one thing led to another and i ended up personally handing the plans to the Rebel Leader. So forgive me if i thought he was holding an invisible product, I can't take much more of this invisible crap. I didn't know Bothan's had that ability. Force My Life
@Lord Vader
Sir, if you'll not be needing me, I'll close down for a while.
With all I've been through lately, I'm surprised I'm in as good a shape as I am, what with being used as your boytoy-bot all night long last night. My joints are almost frozen!
i don't care how cool you are... Kangol hats are soo 1987
@izzykareem Kangol Hats FTW! Give him an Adidas jogging suit and we're in business!
@Digital1
LL Cool J still wants his hat back.
Hey everybody! Bandwagon's this way!
But wait...I thought tablets were supposed to be exactly like PC's but touch.....
That's what the iPad haters led me to believe.
Ditch the hat, bro.
Now...what were you saying?
Intel have got themselves into a interesting situation:
* Any platform that has a lot of compiled apps e.g. iPhone, Android and WebOS would have to get ALL of their developers to recompile and resubmit their apps. This is never going to happen.
* The market for Windows based tablet PCs has been shown to not be that significant. It's basically limited to artists and others that benefit from a stylus.
* Which means the only platforms this could be useful for are ones like Meego and JooJoo.
@taligent
Well it is pretty obvious that Intel wants to make a chip for their OS and not for competitors.
@taligent Android and webOs do not have that much proportion of native apps. As far as I know normal apps run on a virtual machine in the case of android or are html5+javascript in the case of webOS, so the hardware underneath is not a problem if the OS works there. And at least for webOS it already seems to run on x86 and arm.
But yeah, native OpenGL games ported from iphone will need to be recompiled, thats a given.
@taligent Note that Intel just launched Moorestown and have said that Android will be available;. Most Android apps will work unless they use the NDK. x86 support in the ndk has been announced so this is very much an official expansion of Android into x86

Intel will be debuting a sleek hip tablet with product influence from Kangol hats.
The spokespersons for the new commercials will be Howie Mandel & Samuel L. Jackson.
This tablet will be very different and stand out from the 800 other tablets that are all inferior to the iPad.
I imagine this could be a bit more specialized than just another Atom. I'm imagining a System-On-Chip that focuses more on rendering and video since multitouch and Internet video have exploded in popularity and "necessity". These tasks are distracting and unattractive when the underlying hardware isn't capable of gorgeous, fluid video rendering. I hate to see a chip that tethers itself to the Windows operating system, but I think a tablet needs to have one thing...seamless display quality. Afterall, the display is the only form of interaction between user and device.
How about people stop announcing tablets unless they plan on releasing them within a two week window. I don't want to hear about another Tablet slated for Q3'2010 or in layman's terms never
