Motorola Shadow glimpsed in the wild: 4.1-inch screen, 8MP camera, OMAP3630 processor?
Leave it to the very same poster who teased the Motorola Shadow's Getting Started manual, wnrussell of Howard Forums, to provide a pretty clear shot of the device itself -- yep, that's a HDMI out port -- and reveal some purported specs. Here's the claimed technical details: 4.1-inch screen, TI OMAP 3630 processor (a 720MHz ARM Cortex A8), 8GB internal storage, 8 megapixel camera. Yeah, we can buy all that, especially since he's clearly got the device in hand -- so now it's up to Verizon to let us know when we can do the same.

@Plazmic Flame Soo many great phones coming out its getting hard to choose just 1 device
@liftedngifted1
but nothing for t-mobile that i know of -.-
@liftedngifted1 Um with you on that. Once you buy one phone, then a better one is rite there around. $600....Like every 4 or 6 months
Pressure on Palm.
@Plazmic Flame Thank goodness it doesn't have that darn chin a la original Droid!
@Plazmic Flame
Just a question.
I have never been on a phone contract my whole life. I usually buy my phones full retail because I hate being bound to the contract.(T-Mobile/Sprint)
I really don't see why AT&T and Verizon won't use the Sprint/T-Mobile model? Own your phone and pay monthly for your service. I only say this because it seems like all the powerful phones are only coming out to Post-Paid and these manufactures and telecos are bias against people that Pre-Pay. Sure Tmobile gets the HD2 and Sprint EVO. But I would like to have more choices as well.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
Dude...you need to just walk out the door, gradually walk towards the nearest highway...jump in the middle of traffic and rid the world of your idiotic troll comments...
@liftedngifted1
You must not be a person who's tied down on T-Mobile (US)
@BecauseItsNotGoogle Don't really know how this compares to 1 GHz Snapdragon but this is thing is a Droid clocked up on steroids. It can't be THAT slow.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
you didn't get my point.
If you really think about it. I think most people in the America rather own their phone at full retail then be locked down on a contract. simple. Tmobile and Sprint realize this. Why can't the big two? Well I guess people that want to pay $110 dollars iPhone and you don't even own your phone yet vs paying $69 dollars with a paid for phone on sprint EVO no Contract. See my point. What would you choose? When it comes down to it is that your paying extra 40 dollars for map coverage. sms and internet are "basically" the same. is it worth it? If you have the money sure. I just want choice.
@BeeDavis
The main reason T-Mobile & Sprint got into pre-pay is because they weren't doing well competing head-to-head with VZ and AT&T on contracted service. It really goes back to the fact most people won't buy a SmartPhone at MSRP due to sticker shock. Most of the pre-pay market is comprised of cheaper feature phones -- which is why there's not much choice for good SmartPhones there.
@BeeDavis
get an unlocked gsm smartphone u want from ebay or craigslist. get a sim from a pre-paid plan. slap the sim into the phone u bought and you're forever free from contracts.
@RealGame22
Should innovation stop so that problem resolves?
I'm content that my Droid isn't the beast it once was but I still love it. Be content with your new purchase and enjoy that technology is booming. Would you rather tech take a pause every time a new phone is introduced?
@BecauseItsNotGoogle you must be steve ballmer...
@Plazmic Flame for apple to beat the HTC EVO with android 2.2 on it the iphone 4g/hd would have to get up and walk around...fix me breakfast in the morning...and scratch my back...
@soorma palm cracked.. its over
@BecauseItsNotGoogle oh wow just last year phones with 256mb ram were awesome now if it's not 512mb or higher or not at least 1ghz it's junk.. The iphone 3gs runs like 500 or 600 mhz and is smooth as butter it just depends on how much the os needs.. Hell if my pre clocked in at this phones speed it'd be perfect
@Hiprocksoul I feel the same way. I love my Droid. I recently added a new kernel to boost the CPU to 800mhz and it runs like a dream. The Droid id sufficient in all areas Android at the moment and I love mine.
@Plazmic Flame
Can someone help me out here, do we know WHICH PowerVR SGX graphics chip is part of the TI OMAP 3630? is it the 535? 530?
Thanks :)
@heatgap Dream runs on a 528 MHz processor :D
@piercem The fun part here is, the unit was found on a company's gym. Now we know, where leaks truly originate. Reactions. http://j.mp/motorola-shadow-impressions
@Plazmic Flame
The labels for the HDMI and USB are on the wrong ports. Hahahaa
@xanavi Ha they are, very strange!
@trong
Just think back to 2004 where AMD was king with 2.4GHz compared to Intel's Pentium 4 at 3.2GHz. It's not the power Hz that makes the difference it's how they use it.
Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650 1 GHz is 65nm processor that is a power hog and has poor 3D processing. TI's newer 45nm OMAP 3 and OMAP 4 with PowerVR technology seems to be just as powerful but uses less power and has better GFX acceleration.
I have an old Dell Axim X51 from 2005 that runs a Qualcomm 624MHz is a snail in comparison to my HTC Touch that had a TI's OMAP 850, 201 MHz flat flew at the time
@BeeDavis well.. the problem is that people like u n 'me' r in minority here... a lot of consumers dont mind signing 2 yr contracts with the data plan to get these handsets.... so until, the pre-paid consumer base grows to the post paid level, i dont see the telcos offering any decent handsets. I m glad that t-mobile atleast has a few better prepaid choices. u shud see verizon's prepaid offerings... its just ridiculous...
@xanavi uhh, no they aren't. Thats a mini-HDMI port just like on the HTC Evo. The mini USB is a wider port and the mini-HDMI is a taller port with white internals.
@piercem Tmo already has the HD2. All these other phones are just playing catch up.
@soorma
uh, more prssure on Apple. iPhone 4G better impress.
@BoxBabaX Tis the SGX530.
@zoeman Thank you! I 100% agree with that statement. When the Evo upgrades to 2.2 it will be the undisputed king of smartphones. The iPhone needs serious revamping. It needs a bigger screen and more functionality. I cannot wait until I get the Evo! Anyone who thinks they're cool with their iPhone can shut up right now
@BecauseItsNotGoogle What kool-aid you drinking and do you got some to share...
@ultraret That's not what my Pre Plus is telling me.
Is it just me or is the iPhone HD looking less and less appealing every day?
@Apple Fan It is not just you. Proof of the intense innovation occurring that even "Apple Fan" would admit being drawn to other devices besides those Steve Jobs' makes with fairy dust and the blood of unicorns.
@Apple Fan
It's not just you.
@Apple Fan
its just you
@Sled
If two people above you just said it isn't just him, you're obviously incorrect.
In other word...FAIL.
@Apple Fan
iPhone 4g can suck it.
I am a verizon customer and I'm sick of waiting...I bet if they do get an iphone it will probably be a CDMA 3gs -- I bet AT&T will get the 4g iphone...even so, it's not going to be that great. I seriously doubt it will have digital video output (maybe displayport -- you know that POS connector Apple pushes that no one uses and you have to get a 70$ adapter (that requires power btw) for it to work with any normal HDTV \ Display) -- the only plus on the iphone 4g is the front facing cam...
Why moto didn't include one on the shadow -- I'm not sure...maybe it will have one?
@DoctarPeppar I'm looking and see no sign of it... =|
It personally doesn't matter to me, I probably wouldn't use it so much. But its always better to have more than just enough.
@Apple Fan
Believe it or not, the iPhone 4 combined with OS 4 is the first Apple handset I've ever found remotely impressive, and even with the Shadow and the Evo I still do. Maybe not as good as HTC and Motorola's offerings, but it still looks damn impressive in my opinion.
@emagine "intense innovation" and "motorola" used in the same context? LOL! yeah, I want whatever you've been smoking.
and actually, to correct you, this doesn't appeal to me one bit. I've used my friend's android phone and it's still a sub-par experience overall as far as I'm concerned. My money is going towards the next iphone.
@Apple Fan
There are android zealots and iphone zealots... but, There isn't much heard from blackberry zealots.. are they shy and retiring or just not on the internet?
@Apple Fan Even Nokia's N8 is amazing...Apple better pull something good next month...
@xdreamer
rim people have more important things in life than being a fanboy ie texting...
@digitalgopher Give credit where credit is due. Motorola has made a comeback considering their last great phone (in terms of sales) was the razr. This was years ago. Then they do nothing for a long time, they were dying, and the Droid comes out among others with many more to come. Though they may not have been as revolutionary as was the creation of the iphone by Apple. They certainly took an opportunity with Android and were successful. I would say the first phone that was comparable to the iphone.
@xdreamer BlackBerry fans are too busy doing serious bidness to care about posting on the internets.
@emagine you bring up some good points. I do realize that they were dead in the water essentially and came back strong. And I'm certainly willing to give credit where credit is due, but shouldn't that credit go to Google instead of Motorola? What I'm trying to say is that wasn't the Droid considered successful because of Android and not so much Motorola? I would think it's mostly because it was the first company to bring Android to the masses. right?
@Apple Fan for apple to beat the HTC EVO with android 2.2 on it the iphone 4g/hd would have to get up and walk around...fix me breakfast in the morning...and scratch my back...
@digitalgopher There were a lot of shit Andrioid phones, though. Moto made the best handset so far at the time.
