ASUS debuts 15.6-inch ROG G53 3D gaming laptop at Computex
Hope you're not burned out on ASUS introductions yet, 'cause they're far from over. During the outfit's Computex press conference, a new multimedia monster was unveiled in the ROG G53. ASUS didn't bother sharing too many specifications, but that didn't stop us from hunting down a placard with the deets we were craving. Whenever the company decides to ship it, it'll be available with Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 options, up to 16GB of DDR3 memory on the quad-core machines (8GB of DDR3 on the dual-core rigs), a LED-backlit "HD" display, NVIDIA "Enthusiast" graphics, room for a pair of hard drives (or an SSD / HDD combo system), an optional Blu-ray drive, USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI 1.4 port for piping those 3D signals to your 3D HDTV. Per usual, there's no mention of a price tag, but hopefully we'll be clued in sooner rather than later.
Update: Two other gaming lappies were slipped in today by ASUS: the 17.3-inch G73Jw and G51 3D, neither of which have their specs sheets in public view.

I WANT ONE! been waiting for a refresh for three months now
SWEET!
@brrip Been waiting for this 3D version. All the updates. http://j.mp/asus-rog-3d-finally

@HW90
Mobile fermi?
@HW90 A majorly underclocked fermi at best.
@Schmich
Fermi in a laptop? No thanks, I plan on keeping the skin on my legs.
It must feel like Christmas for Asus fanboys.
@weeman
It'll be Christmas when we get around to the netbooks. For now, it's like I'm sitting on Santa's lap and he's telling me that I can't have a Win7 Tablet until 2011. Fat bastard.
I sincerely hope that "HD" lcd panel isn't 1366x768. I'm getting real tired of most all PCs being stuck with that crappy resolution
@Luffy Asus has lately become very happy with 1080p with the G73,so HD should mean HD.
@Luffy
HD refers to 1366x768 probably, but they also have FHD on the spec sheet which means 1920x1080.
Is it just me, or am I the only one that doesn't want a number pad on my laptop?
I'm really hoping they announce pricing for the N43, and/or the the K42.
@garionw
I've been absolutely dieing for a laptop with a numpad. There are plenty of laptops out there without them if you want to go that route.
If you do a lot of work in excel, a numpad is an absolute god send and too few laptop manufacturers agree with that. Now if they could just do something about that right shift key...
I can verify by the terms used that that means GTX480m or 465m,the systematics used can only show that,and asus will not down grade from previous generations.
Woah a gaming laptop that isn't garish?
@aeth Unbelievable, isn't it? Asus finally made something with the G73 and now the G53 that can outshine Alienware's clunky hardware.
Anything to help me craft a few extra hats in TF2 is welcome.
Sounds like one of those laptops whose battery life is about half an hour...
@MegaJapan
probably is around half an hour, but you buy one of these for performance not battery life
@peacecrafts I own the old G50,I get 2 and a half, fermi would kill that of course.
@peacecrafts
A 15.6" doesn't sound all too appealing for a desktop replacement. I'd like to take this boi to campus and play some good stuff...
@MegaJapan
its portable to wherever there is an outlet...hehe
Looks good - long live the mouniface
Not to sound like a jerk, but your photos are pretty bad. Can you please use a smaller aperture next time you photograph a product - it's kinda hard to see a device with blurry defocused areas.
Thanks,
Photo Nazi
@spaz1 i definitely agree with you. this is likely to be my next notebook purchase
wish the current ROGs have USB 3.0
Bah, a gaming laptop with nvidia graphics is fail !
@Avaron
what's wrong with having 3D Vision, PhysX, and CUDA?
This laptop is going for 3D, so unless ATI comes out with a decent 3D solution all the 3D laptops will be Nvidia
@peacecrafts
3d Vision sucks - its an atrocious gimick, don't believe me ? try it ! maybe in 2 years or so when the technology has matured.
physx is way overrated - it has good performance with an extra card that handles it but not when you have to render with the same card. Either way, I despise nvidias approach on disabling phsyx as soon as it detects anything ati in the system... that apple like behaviour is just childish
cuda is not for gaming.
These are the only things nvidia has going for them nomatter how insignificant they are they have to push them or they have nothing. Their dx10 hardware is *years* old and their dx11 hardware behaves like a hairdryer regarding noise and power consumption and isn't even out yet.
I for one rather have a decent dx11 card that doesn't burn a hole in the table...
nvidia needs to come up with something new and fast...
@Avaron
"their dx11 hardware behaves like a hairdryer regarding noise and power consumption and isn't even out yet"
If its not out yet, how do you know it behaves like a hairdryer? O.o
Anyways, my point was that ATI doesn't have a decent 3D solution yet so Asus has to use Nvidia for all 3D laptops
whaaaaaaaaa? a matte screen? in a consumer laptop? SHOCK HORROR!
Now this is something that really really looks awesome. All the right ingredients. Nice casing - check. Matte screen - check. Beefy specs - check. Chiclet keys - check. About the only thing that may or may not let it down is how the touchpad goes and I guess if it has a backlit keyboard (would be a definite plus).
One of the better laptops I've seen in a while - at least first impressions are two thumbs up from me.
This makes me wish I hadn't already ordered my G73. Oh well, I need my laptop earlier than a year's time. Still, the USB 3.0 options and the 15.6" form factor is absolutely killing me now.
ASUS debuts 15.6-inch 'ROID' G53 3D gaming laptop
Fixed :D
I have the G73 and it is an amazing machine!
If by enthusiast graphics they mean the GTS 360M, I'm out.
60mm is a bit too fat for my taste. But, it does look respectable which is good. Definitely a desktop replacement with those two hard drives and dimensions. Gonna be a heavy sucker (hehe, weight and airflow).
Finally! I've been hoping ASUS would release the G7 chassis design for a smaller notebook--I don't know what took them so long.
on the nvidia site under enthusiast it has a 480M graphics card, lets all hope it has a fermi card XD
