Dell Inspiron 14z dips to $399, for now
It may be nearly a year since we first got our hands on Dell's thin-and-light Inspiron 14z, but the laptop still certainly holds its own in its class, and Dell has now made an offer that's awfully hard to refuse -- it's lowered the price to just $399. That will of course get you the lowest-end, Pentium Dual-Core SU4100 model, but you can upgrade to a Core 2 Duo for $65 extra, and the rest of the basic specs aren't too shabby, including 3GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and a DVD burner. Anyone thinking of taking the plunge better act fast, however, as the deal is apparently part of a 48 hour sale, and quite a few of those hours have already ticked away.

WANT.
@SolidSnake
Nvm, it has intergrated graphics...
Thats a no buy.
@SolidSnake Just as I was posting DONT FORGET 5% BING CASHBACK, my Dell Zino HD HTPC I'm typing on just completely froze up.......
First time its happened so far, but oh the irony. -_-
@MoreGoogleAds
Sigh.

Go do some book learnin'. You sure could use it..
@MoreGoogleAds
facepalm.jpg do you ever make a good comment?
@Ducman69
maybe your computer doesn't like you being so loud
@MoreGoogleAds
Being ignorant is not necessarily a guilt, but when arrogance is added to the ignorance the resulting cocktail becomes explosive and extremely dangerous.
@SolidSnake
did someone actually act shocked that a $399 notebook has integrated graphics!?
@SolidSnake Have one. Nice looking. The move from 4:3 to 16:9 is stupid and makes the default screen resolution less useful than an older 13" model which would have more vertical pixels and so more web content than this. VERY heavy. Power connector is on the wrong (right) side. Nice battery life. Good performance. Wonky trackpad--generally works very well then gets all wonky and just jumps around randomly sometimes.
@SolidSnake Any idea when they will be fitting this 10-inch Dell Mini with CULV? like the dell shown here - http://netbooksreview.net/dell/
Would rather have a matbook pro
@slikdealor For $400? I'll take 10 then.
@slikdealor
For $399, you could buy three of these for a price of a decent MacBook...
@slikdealor good for you...
@jamo http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/notebooks/inspiron-14z/pd.aspx?refid=inspiron-14z&s=dhs&cs=19
14z starts at $599.
@Cwill127 And yet this post is about them being on sale for $399. Do you even read the post before flaming?
@slikdealor
I dont think you can find a macbook proo for 500 bucks, not even used.
@sinco That's because they're still being used, and useful. Try to find a used 2 year old Dell notebook. They don't exist, because they're usually dead after a year and a half...
@nefan65 At first I was like no way. But then I remembered that I'm using a dell xps whose video card burned out and was replaced at 8 months. Webcam and mic failed after a year, had to replace the hdd because random files were getting corrupted, the hinges are squeaky, it sometimes turns itself on in my bag, baking itself within an inch of death, and the usb ports have gotten very flaky. So really, your comment describes my dell laptop experience pretty well.
@hsc
Sorry to hear that. My XPS is still kicking strong after four years of hard use.
@chispito 4 years.. I'm guessing it's an m1710? I've heard good things about those. Oh well, luck of the draw. I'll see if I can squeeze out another year from this thing.
@hsc
XPS M1210. Really, if it were a pound lighter and had a matte screen, it would be perfect.
Nice. Decent PC specs at netbook prices; the force is strong with this one.
@Madcat
Really tempting, but it looks like you can only get it in red for this price. Plus in order to really make it useful it costs $540 (Core 2 duo and extended battery). Still not bad, but if it had come in a good "work color" and been under $500 with my additions I may have made an impulse notebook purchase.
loaded w/ Vista? I'll pass...
@Koobs: Nah, it comes with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) - Engadget simply recycled a photo they used from their first hands-on with the laptop from May last year, before 7 had launched.
@Koobs Nope, it has windows 7
@meeku
Not only that, but this is a totally different 14z. The old one didn't have a DVD drive while this one does. I don't know if the original was thinner.
@Peter F
Actually the old thing was a Studio 14z. Nevermind.
@Peter F
The picture on this article is of the studio 14z, though.
@Koobs If you go to the website, you can easily see that it has Windows 7 Home Premium.
@Papytendo This is what I get for not refreshing after ten minutes.
Would rather have a matbook pro
@slikdealor
You failed the first time, what makes you think the second one will be better?
@SolidSnake Didnt mean to post it twiste
That's a winning price, gotta stay in competition with those Compaq and Asus prices for the market is there amongst those who choose not to spend the month's rent on a Laptop [Apple]
Wish it has Win7...
@TheSunman89 It does ship with Win7, this is an old pic..
Actually, this is the Inspiron 14z, the one that you went hands on was the Studio 14z, which is much better built, but lacks a DVD drive.
@Re
I think that one has nvidia graphics as well
This is a different 14z than the first one. The original didn't have a DVD drive while this one does.
@Peter F
Actually the picture on this article is the studio 14z while it is talking about the inspiron 14z. The studio 14z does not have a DVD drive.
@Peter F Sorry for the Inspiron / Studio confusion. The image is now the correct one.
Inspiron 14z, as of right now, starts at $599 on Dell.com.
Anyone care to explain?
@Cwill127
Click the source link.
i cant find this deal. i found a 15 incher fro $399. but not 14z
ok, i just went back and the 15inch went up $50.
Cherry Red only. Not exactly my color. :)
This is pretty impressive and if I as in the market for a notebook this would be tempting.
Now Dell, just make something at the $600 dollar price point just like this but with decent dedicated graphics like a 5650 or a 330.
Mannn, Dell is cracking the whip over there at Foxconn to get this price."work faster, work faster, more, more"
