Intel briefly demos next-gen Sandy Bridge laptop platform at Computex
We're obviously well aware of what's coming up from Intel, but today at Computex Chipzilla demoed its upcoming Sandy Bridge platform for the first time. The demo was quite brief, but showed off the power of the future Intel integrated graphics with a side by side comparison with a discrete graphics system. It's all in the video after the break, but don't get your hopes up about seeing these new processors anytime soon -- Intel's Dadi Perlmutter confirmed that they won't hit the market until 2011.

Woohhoooooo Intel, Congrats.
@potretr "Chipzilla"? That cracked me up for some reason. good job Joanna
@Pickaxe Sounds like she's been reading The Inquirer, actually.
@potretr
32nm quad cores; thank you for preventing me from buying a laptop until the beginning of next year.
Sandy Bridge? I was really looking for another chip named after the city. Like Tehran or Beirut or some of the sort.
@Sea Urchin
What's up with all the freaking names? No one except for the pros knows what they all stand for. You gotta watch the video to learn that it's the planned successor for the current Core i7 processor architecture.
@SeeKo Tehran and Beirut in the same sentence i object... :) .. Beirut is the hippest city ;).
Now on the subject, Intel seems to be in the right direction. let's hope the Intel CPUs become more battery friendly.
Is it just me, or does the Sandy Bridge game video look like its running at a significantly lower res, then scaled for the presentation?
@Glitch
Hmm, they say same res. Wish they had the character in the same position.
It would appear so, the character is clearly larger which would make me believe that it is a scaled lower res that isn't the same aspect ratio.
Also, really didn't look that impressive. 2001 eat your heart out.
@Glitch
Yeah, I think they're faking it. It's also nice how they don't name the discrete GPU. There are no legal issues comparing a brand if they back it up so why hide it? Intel are such a bunch of lying bastards.
The AMD Fusion will kick its ass big time because it's based on the 5000-series GPU. The AMD demo is a bit lame but shows the same thing they previewed on a high-end GPU running on integrated:

Eat carpet Intel (yet again).
I'm actually waiting for Sandy Bridge to build my next comp. I figure I can get another year out of my C2D E7200 before I need to rebuild anyway.
This was a horrible demo. There are no shadows, no dynamic lights, nothing new was rendered. At least it will be better than what they put into a lot of these now. What they really needed to show was this compared to say a Geforece 9400.
@JXCGunrunna
even the current Intel HD Graphics, is not far behind the 9400, so if they promise significant advances it should be much faster.
@WiesiAut Yes, they are far behind the 9400, actually.
i cant hear anything they are saying :/
Intel integrated graphics will always suck.
Sandy...Balls?
looks promising
I dun' care about your shitty graphics Intel, I want CPU information!
What a dependable name; yep, I would put all of my trust in a bridge made out of sand.
the field of view on the integrated graphics is a lot lower then the field of view on the dedicated graphics.
That has a huge impact on the FPS. I wonder why they showed it running on a lower fov...
More like sandy balls
It just hit me what has been bothering me about Intel for so long -
they have, by far, the ugliest PowerPoint templates man has ever seen.
Their naming conventions are poetic.
Sorry Intel, but it was blatantly obvious which one was discrete; the righthand video's framerate was chugging, while the lefthand video's framework was perfectly smooth.
It was no big surprise when he revealed that the video with the crappy framerate was the Intel onboard solution.
PLEASE, Intel, bring your video offerings up to par with the competition!
