You may not agree with Sony Ericsson's time table, nor their decision on what flavor of
Android to use, but let's face it: you were intrigued when SE
told you the Xperia X10 would be its first Google-fied smartphone. To date, the X10 has yet to gain the kind of global appreciation shared by the Motorola Droid, Nexus One or iPhone, but that's not to say quite a few of you haven't ended up with one. We had our fair share of gripes and grins when
reviewing the thing, but as you well know, this is no place for us to rehash what we've already explained. Rather, we're curious to know how exactly you feel about the Xperia X10. In what can only be described as the most competitive smartphone landscape in the history of the world, the X10 is going up against some huge players; do you feel that the product SE has delivered is up to snuff? Would you have rather seen a different version of Android from the start? Any issues with the touch panel, camera, or industrial design? Digging those hard buttons below the display? We have to imaging that the X11 is already floating around in someone's mind, and chances are high that they'll be looking in comments for advice on where to turn. No pressure.
Have you ever seen a perfect phone? Me neither, so any smartphone could be upgraded in a way. As month old X10 user I would like it not to be perfect but competitive:
- Android 2.1 now, Android 2.2 in next q
- more precise digitizer with multitouch
- more RAM (512 MB at least)
- better SE native aps, especially timescape and phonebook needs to be improved
And thats it, the rest of the phone should stay as is IMO.
I used the rogers version and it was very laggy. Plus the OS is more complicated than stock android. That's why i bought the nexus instead.
@N00bicals
which is why it needs froyo! However the design is perfect. Quite easily the best looking phone out there.
X10 needs:
-Froyo and almost automatic Android updates
-Timescape and Mediascape as simple apps (not melted with Android code)
-higher call/bluetooth volume
-better keyboorad (left/right/up/down arrows, double-tap to select all)
-Copy/paste everywhere
-root
-Multitouch
-Larger screen (the ration of the HTV EVO is better than the 16/9 of the X10, 16/9 is not a good format for phone, too long but not large enough)
-better wifi range
-in-call screen with call functions displayed instead of having to press a button
-Search in the email function
-screen capture
If you want to sign a petition to ask Sony to upgrade the X10 with Froyo, it's here:
http://www.petitiononline.com/froyo/petition.html
Android 2.2 Froyo, multitouch, more accurate touch screen or scroll ball/pad, front facing camera, better battery life
And also a better contact organizer and media scape app. It is very clunky to jump around my media on this device.
.... wait, so is this out in the US now??? mobilecityonline.com and a few other vendors are listing the Xperia X10a (SKU X10BKUS, 3G on 850/1900/2100 ie AT&T) as in stock...
For the sake of statistics, The X10 has sold much more than the Nexus one already....
i like it ^^
I use the phone and it's even woth then my old: http://www.gsmarena.com/ericsson_r380-195.php
- Touch screen, not accurate and, sorry, useless!
- Battery consumtion extremely high.
- OS too old, 1.61 not ok
- Camera way too slow
- Screen too big and consumes all battery.
- Better chargers, you cannot use standard have too be higher Ampere that means only Sony Ericssons own chargers work.
- Remove their software mediascape, awefull!
Still using my phone, thinking of trying the Mini Pro...
Hmmm, i'd make it an evo.
