What shall we call this, Frodroid or Droyo? Either way, an Android 2.2 update has been made available for Motorola's all-conquering slider, and it awaits eager firmware upgraders at the download link below. Produced by the good folks at
My Droid World, this includes almost everything you'll need to get your
Froyo on in style, though it excludes WiFi support at this stage. Such is the way with unofficial upgrades, but if you really need consolation, there's a whole set of superuser privileges to explore as this bad boy comes pre-rooted. You could of course skip this whole community business and wait for Moto's official update, but that company's idea of the
"near future" is about as precise as the length of a piece of string.
It's not working for me. I keep getting an error that says that the boot image can't be restored. Everything else seems to restore fine, but the phone won't boot without the boot image being restored.
can some one make a video and post it to youtube?
Everyone who uses this deserves to brick their phones. So many criminals on this forum, it's PATHETIC!
@dssdbs loading a costing ROM and rooting. Your device is not a crime.
@dssdbs
Ahahaha, you're one dumb sum bitch.
We're still waiting over here in England for frodo I mean froyo. Having had the brilliant nexus1 for 3weeks now I am getting fidgety because I've heard nothing of froyo for us over here. And now the Motorola Droid has it. What! What's happen'n man? I want froyo now! I want answeres! We're being left out of the loop Google.
@xus1 Yes exactly... no answers! :(
@hated one
It must be hard for you to show off your iPhone, when you live in your parents basement. Must suck for your to be so poor and helpless.
@hated one
As someone who posts on Engadget you should have the sense to know that data and talk limitation is based on verizons technology not the phones. If there was an iphone on vzw right now it would not be capable of voice and data simultaniously. LTE should change all this next year hopefully.
FroBro
Flash works for me. Also wifii wasn't a problem. He just changed the kernel to protect whereever he got it from. A lot laggy at first but it's good now. If you have good 3g then you don't need wifi. It's stable enough to be used everyday.
Stop ungrading phones that don't need it the droid had 2.1 there ISA reason why most android users are running 1.5 1.6 upgrade the htc magic and g1 already... Jesus I don't want to root just to use google goggles fuck
@Zeroexe43
Cyanogen have recently released 2.1 for the G1 and others. You should take a look. You have to root, but all that is really simple. Plus wifi tether is the shit.
@Zeroexe43
You're stuck on an old OS because quite honestly, the hardware is outdated.
Frodroyo says to C3PO "thank you moto!"
@hated one
What will be discontinued? Support for the Droid?
Anyone notice that the link to the site is down?
@hated one I love how people assosiate themselves with products they buy. Hated, for example, feels "cool" because his phone is shiny and has an apple on it. Forget the fact that the phone has the crappiest network - one that makes it difficult to make a call in nyc. I love my droid because it works, not because of the way it looks. I am starting to hate apple. Between the chen/gizmodo crap and their shallow fans that need to have their i phones and imacs with them while they sip lattes at the starbucks. Get real. Please. Your equipment doesn't make you cool.
Installed and running. Lots of new little tweaks and snappy apps/switching.
@hated one
"Is that sad or sick?"
You're both.
Bought my ATT band N1 directly from Google at full price...didn't get a carrier subsidy and still no Froyo love. Getting irritated waiting.
@bneals only in the US. You seem to forget that android devices operate on multiple carriers, including AT&T. International market is much bigger than the US. The biggest problem with android is that certain leaks or releases are only for a certain country. It's localized. IPhone OS is one version for all iPhones globally. The only exception is iPhone OS 4, which only works for iPhone 3G and up, but you get the idea.
Now my droid is running at 1ghz with flash on 2.2. Thanks :D
iv tryed folling there insructions with the rom download and it doesn't work, there's no restore options or sertain folders like they say there should be I've tryed this 3 times, the site says in order for the files to show up ur droid has to be rooted? Any one try this yet? I don't want to have to root it. If anyone knows anything good or knows how to get it working please email me. Iwilson_2007@yahoo.com
-yawn- and still no news post on the Froyo port that's been available on the HTC Desire fr a while now. WITH WiFi support to boot. It's good other devices are getting a mention, but COME ON!
ROM, wifi fix, benchmarks, overclocking and flash::: all here this is a good summary of everything with instructions pulled from some sites

nitido!!!!
I like it
Okay so I'm a noob to these things. If I update to this, when the official release drops will it prompt me, and will it overwrite it?
@madcrabs
that's what I am wondering too.
I love it. Using it now. No flaws
Downloading the update package, too bad this is not 2.2 'Im waiting for
A question from a noob. Verizon, not Moto, pushed out the 2.1 update. Why are we waiting for Moto to finish 2.2? Will there be two 2.2 updates - one from moto and one from verizon?
@bneals Think about this... Moto makes the phones, thus makes the updates. Verizon is the carrier, thus pushes them.
my bad,this is for droid, not my milestone.
Any word on when official update for unlocked Milestone(aka GSM Droid) is launching.
pretty cool~
Might consider picking up a GSM droid / milestone if this would work on it.
@hated one
No. Now go away.
Amazing recomend doing it on rom manger app via clockwork mod on rom manager
Does anyone know how the droid runs at 1 ghz and above? The battery life already sucks, how much does OCing it increase the battery drain? Also, does it get much hotter?
do you have to root your phone for this?
"an Android 2.2 update has been made available for Motorola's all-conquering slider, and it awaits eager firmware upgraders at the download link below."
Um, WHERE exactly is the download link mentioned above? (I wear glasses, so maybe Im just blind)
