Shocker! Notion Ink Adam likely delayed (update)
Another day, another exciting tablet delayed. The Notion Ink Adam -- that 10-inch, Tegra 2-powered tablet with a Pixel Qi screen that we fell pretty hard for at CES -- is apparently going to be delayed. We can't say we're Updated: We heard from Rohan and apparently the Adam will hit only some countries in November, the initial list of target countires will get the tablet earlier. He tells us pre-orders in the US will start soon!

Sadly I think they are going to be stomped out. With people buying the iPad everywhere I think their investors got scared and are pulling the plug because they dont think the Notion Ink Adam can compete with the iPad. I hope Im wrong because I want a Notion Ink Adam. From the first time engaget posted an article on it I thought that looks amazing! I really hope it comes to fruition and makes a big splash in the tech sphere and becomes popular.
I wanted a Courier, and the Adam was my backup choice.... now I'm thinking I may just get an iPad this fall...
@McHoffa it will come. Just wait for nVidia to actually get their heads out of their asses.
Engadget I have a genuine question : can you actually be MORE biased honestly ? I mean without working for Fox News or CCTV ?
You just happened to FORGET that neither Tegra 2 NOR Pixel Qi are in production ?
I mean how much does it cost to make you forget this ? Because at least when Google enables BP to buy the adwords "Oil spill" to do propaganda on their search engine they make money out of it !
What a fucking disgrace I can't believe it !
@Flix C Since when do you need the components for your device to be in production for you to produce a product? I figured they would call in their favor from the magic pixie fairy land and the devices would be produced in about a two week period and released to the masses, I figure two weeks is enough to get a good 500 million produced.
I had a lot of hope for this device but this company is seeming shadier by the second. All of their new excuses loses a lot of credibility for me, I wouldn't trust sending them my money for the device they had better get it into a Best Buy or something, sounds like a Madoff scam
I told myself that I would decide on a tablet by Christmas 2010, so that is how long each of these companies has to get their sh*t together.
This Ink is at the top of the list of possibles, but the delays are starting to get really f'n annoying...
I really really need this thing, not want but need. I am building a Library of books, comics, and manga with the intention of reading them all on this; not to mention college text books. the iPad can go S a D, Unless its got transflective technology its not a ebook reader.
I already have an HP touchsmart TM2 convertible tablet. I think Windows 7 is fine on a tablet (it works pretty well at 125% DPI, actually, along with HP's touchsmart apps).
But this tablet has been and remains #1 on my radar due to the awesome dual-mode e-ink screen.
Correction: I have an older Touchsmart TX2 tablet. I didn't spend the big bucks on a TM2.
If this was "investor preference" then they have some pretty stupid investors.
Excitement for this device is pretty high among the techy community right now. They need to get this device out asap while it can still offer new technology and people remember it.
We all saw the vast amount of devices being displayed at Computex this year. The niche that Adam is looking to fill can be taken relatively quickly by OEMs who can rapidly develop a comparable device.
Personally it's not the Tegra 2 that excites me (ok, it excites me...but not as much) it is the Pixel Qi screen and Android OS. If someone comes out with a device that's relatively fast and has Pixel Qi (or as we say 3Qi yesterday) and a decent OS before Adam comes out, I am not going to wait and I suspect many others feel the same way.
@newtybar
The Notion Ink Adam is the tablet equivalent of the 200 MPG carburetor.
This ought to look good next to my OLPC XO-2.
I may not be able to wait until November but I will try. Someone needs to come out with a tablet that is useful for what you would think it would be good for like Reading, Note taking, and Web browsing. WITHOUT A SUPER GLOSSY SCREEN DAMMIT.
Perhaps their "investors" "prefer" the iPad.
Sounds like their major investor is Apple.
So it looks like neither Engadget's journalists nor their commenters read the official blog, which was typed up before this article was even made (and to be fair, the rumors have been circulating for much longer than that).

"OK! To all those fueling that we are hitting in November, hold on! That’s not true."
The US will probably be one of the countries that has to wait for November, the logic being that we already have the iPad.
I'm going to be buying two pads, one for myself and another for my parents. If the WebOS tablet comes out by November, that'll be the one my parents get. Mine is whichever more than half decent tablet gets to stores first. (Note: I don't consider the iPad to be even half decent.)
@toddjy
The fact that the US already has the Ipad is why the Adam needs to get out now! The longer they wait the more people will buy an Ipad instead. As well as other competitors that will be releasing products.
Thing is, the Adam is coming out Q3 and just about everything stated in this post is wrong! They settled the funding from investors and expect to produce at least 100,000 a month.
I WISH I COULD BUY IT! But I can't, because it's specifically designed with righties in mind! It doesn't accommodate left-handed people! I really don't think that's fair, and I know they won't do jack about it unless enough people complain, so PLEASE for the sake of all of the lefties that are going to miss out on this amazzzinngg piece of technology (including me), leave a comment on their website!!
@conorjamison
How is this designed specifically for righties? The trackpad is on the left side of the back. Will be harder for us righties to get used to. You can flip it and the picture will rotate. But then the camera will be on the bottom.
Welp, I suppose it's better for everything to be ironed out instead of releasing an ill-prepared tablet. Though I can't say that I'm not disapointed, because I am. Also, what exactly is this "3G" I've been hearing about? Is it free, like the Kindle's Whispernet? If not, then it's a feature I can cut off.
