Adobe releases patch for 'critical' Flash vulnerability
As promised, Adobe has now released an update to Flash that fixes the critical vulnerability discovered earlier this month that could allow your computer to be remotely hijacked. The update naturally covers Windows, Mac and Linux users (and even Solaris, for that matter), and is recommended for anyone running Flash Player 10.0.45.2 or earlier -- the update will also, of course, bump you up to Flash 10.1 if you haven't made the jump already. Adobe AIR users are also advised to upgrade to the latest version released today but, as reported earlier, Adobe Acrobat and Reader users will still have to wait a bit for their fix -- while they're also affected by the vulnerability, they won't be getting an update until the end of the month.Update: Those not able (or willing) to upgrade to Flash 10.1 can also get a patched version of Flash Player 9 right here.

If you aren't already on 10.1, you blew it
@r34p3r *sigh*
@r34p3r
I so blew it then.
@a dumb cat
And so did my Palm Pre. Sigh...
@r34p3r
A joke, of course.
@r34p3r I hate 10.1 -.- it just won't let me scroll over Flash content.
@a dumb cat Le sigh indeed...
@r34p3r
If you're on 64bit Linux, you blew it!
Well that happened alot faster than i thought it would.
@centizen
That's what she said.
@centizen
as the girl said
If you're running the Flash 10.1 beta, uninstall it before trying to update, or the update will fail.
It's not a "patch for 'critical' Flash vulnerability", it's the public release of Flash 10.1, which was never affected by the vulnerability.
No GPU support for Mac OS X - great.
I mean Adobe doesn't even try, do they? I want Hulu not to suck on my Mac Mini - is that too hard for Adobe to understand?
@SebastianR
Apple is the problem, not Adobe.
@SebastianR
Adobe responded with Mac GPU support within 5 days of Apple opening the API. So, yes, they do try. Download the beta that supports it.
@SebastianR Obviously the 2 operating systems are different. Coding GPU support might be easier to do on one than it is the other.
@SebastianR ...try some html5 crap and fix it yourself. Ask jobs and see if he can code it with his magical bull.
@Programmer
Yeah, rrriiight. Apple's the problem. So that's why it will magically get better when ADOBE releases an update.
@Ohmaar Maybe you didn't get this right the first time. GPU acceleration for Flash (videos) wasn't possible on Mac platforms until mid-April because Apple wasn't offering any public APIs granting access to needed system resources. And since no modern platform grant direct access to hardware, GPU acceleration on Macs (for videos) was a no-go. That's until Apple released the "Video Decode Acceleration Framework", which provides C interfaces to enable H.264 acceleration for certain compatible graphics cards.

http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/technotes/tn2010/tn2267.html
Also, take note that compatibility regarding graphic cards supported and capabilities (codecs) will be limited by the framework itself, unless Apple enables devs to access GPU resources any other way (apart from OpenGL which is pretty much useless for video codecs).
@Programmer Apple's released the API. The problem is, Adobe wanted to get this update out the door because of a security flaw in Flash (big surprise), and they haven't had enough time to test the Gala beta.
@johnwait
The issue is coming from a the issue where Adobe is not Moving to Cocoa and still releasing Flash using Carbon.
Apple is not hiding any special magical API's from Adobe.
Adobe should make a patch for that easily ipad faked ID problem, the stuff they used to exploit the info they got from at&t.
I dont get it. Finally Adobe release 10.1 and engadget posted it like a security patch? Lame and sponsored by...you know who...
@trih They released the 10.1 update yesterday, and patched it today. Engadget covered both stories.
Look for bias elsewhere.
@Greg7388 They make ten ipad articles a day. Make one about 10.1 release, it brings more changelog than an Apple product update...
Yet still no 64-bits Linux support...
@Pyronick Nor 64bit Windows support, for that matter... "Full web experience" rings rather hollow.
Adobe Downloader must DIE!!
@deecee i agree I hate how everyone takes advantage of you're computer by installing extra crap with the stuff you want. ie adobe bridge, which has no use for me.
@deecee Any application including Windows that performs updates has a downloader. Try naming one that does not!
@NewBie: Firefox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, Seabird, Songbird, etc.
And even though there IS an updater for Google Chrome, it can update itself without the updater.
Why get a patch for Flash 9? Just update to 10.1. Yeesh.
Hmm so i got the update this morning, then I BSODd.. I was doing alot of EVO modding.. but im pretty sure flash was the culprit.
so what?
