Samsung's 7-inch 'Galaxy Tape' to run Android 2.2 on 1.2GHz A8 processor?
More details about Samsung's new tablet have emerged courtesy of Tinh te and from what it claims is a highly reliable source. This time around, the Vietnamese site is claiming that Samsung's 7-inch Tab will be running Android 2.2 (Froyo) on an A8 processor clocked to a peppy 1.2GHz. It's all powered by a 4,000mAH battery that contributes to the tablet's 370-gram weight with 16GB of on-board storage and up to 32GB of microSD expansion. Oh, and the 7-inch panel is said to be of Samsung's Super AMOLED variety which should make it readable outdoors judging by its smaller sibs. Sounds hot, but we'll have to see how Samsung's TouchWiz UI holds up to being stretched across all that very expensive screen-estate.
P.S. We've also been told that it'll be called the "Galaxy Tape," not Tab or S-Tab as previously rumored.

@Shalabi Tablets seem to ship with versions as low as 1.6 all too often. Perhaps even more impressive is that this might beat any newly commercialized devices to have 2.2, I don't recall anything being announced with 2.2 yet (again, talking devices that haven't hit the market yet).
I think it helps that they have been working with their Touchwiz UI in order to get the Galaxy A & Galaxy S upto the current rev. I'm glad that this makes their promise to port 2.2 over more probable.
I'm sure they'll push Android updates out pretty fast too. I hear they have a good track record of promising customers that
or not.
@csmitty It won't matter the speed if they happen to get 2.2 delivered more than 6 months before anyone else. I say this because 1.6 and 2.0 seem to be the only things ever getting announced in tablets. Also, they'll be working with the same UI on millions more devices than they ever shipped in the past, making their update process more cost-beneficial. But, you can continue to hate, a hater's gonna hate...
That's a tablet I might actually buy. 370 grams and multitasking+super AMOLED.
For an android tablet to succeed it need access to Android Market. Without that specs are not going to matter.
@sapient2k7 perhaps this was implied by your comment, but Android tablet with phone capabilities = android tablet that can access the market place. No worries if that is their plan.
I can just see a person walking down the sidewalk with a whole side of their face covered up by that beast. "Yeah, hold on let me get my headgear on, ok now I can talk."
IPAD KILLER
so they are following apple trend :D , Iphone ----> Big Iphone (Ipad)
wow, i wasnt interested first, but this thing gets sweeter every day!
7" samoled, 1,2ghz a8, 16gb internal plus sd-slot, froyo, big battery,...very nice!
An android tablet and phone trying to look like iPad and iPhone.
Samsung sucks.
AMOLED? If you need light, buy light bulb not AMOLED device.
@KennyKang
What if you want to mount the Galaxy on your sportbike to do Comm, Nav, and serve as a backup/ rear view camera on your sportbike?
I will be able to see an AMOLED device outside.
Can you see the logic in that.
If not, you can borrow my flashlight.
By the way...
If there is any way to NOT call it a TAPE, please do so.
I want one for the AMOLED display, because I’ll be using it outside.
Someone should have told you that in English, Tape is either scotch, duct, or VHS.
If you call it a tape, maybe I’ll consider the new Dell. For one thing, I don’t want to explain it to people (and be laughed at) every time I use it.
Nice
