Xbox 360 Arcade reduced to $99** during Walmart Father's Day sale
We already heard that the legacy Xbox 360 consoles would see a price cut with the introduction of the new Xbox 360 slimster. Now Walmart has sweetened the deal with a tempting Father's Day bundle. Up through June 20th, purchasing a newly priced $149 Xbox 360 Arcade gets you a $50 Walmart eGift card (usable only on Walmart.com and Samsclub.com) on top of the two free games (Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and Viva Piñata), wireless controller, and 256MB of memory already included in Microsoft's Spring Bundle. So really, a console that cost $199 just a few days ago is now selling for $99. Not bad.
** after using your $50 eGift card on crap you'd buy anyway, like Xbox 360 games and accessories.

well, well, well...someone just forced me into buying an xbox 360. well played microsoft.
I'm buying one for my kid brother
@ryan7723
I WAS in for one, but was told by the clerk at WalMart that I HAD to accept Viva Piñata if I bought the system.
Hmph. I was THAT close!
@ryan7723 Hmm, do I replace my original October 2005 Xbox 360 with a new one?
@agreenbhm speaking of hardware quality
@ryan7723
This is indeed quite tempting. Indeed this is...
@ryan7723 Seriously. I think of it like this: a Netflix Roku costs about $100. So, now for the same price I can get a better Netflix player... and oh yeah, an xbox360 to boot!
*SOLD*
@NHAnimator what's the problem with viva pinata? i thought it was a pretty cool game
@Jean Marc
yep nephews birthday in two weeks goes from me buying him a game to a whole system lol !
RROD back up unit! Sad, but I'm going to give them more money to insure me against their crappy hardware failures. They've got me hooked like a junkie.
@sacguy
Viva pinata is actually pretty interesting. Just think of it as Pinata death camps. You breed them and then slaughter them for the candy inside.
anyone here kicking themselves now after paying the 2 benjamins?
@mrqs Nope I got the 20 gig model new for 150 bucks 2 years ago. Then picked up a co-workers 60 gig model for 80 bucks.
Both are working fine.
@mrqs
Who buys this stuff right before E3?
@glamajamma
Sorry, of the people that know about E3, who buys this stuff?
Hmm this is tempting, but the New 360 just seems so much better (not a better deal tho, but a better machine)
@216
Well, it is shinier.
This is one hell of a deal!
@Mike Vick
Yeah now amazon will match it soon. Oh engadget, how is it 99 after you spend the giftcard? You are still 150 in the hole.
@Munny Swirl I think of it this way: I could easily use $50 on grocery shopping or cheap $5 shirts at Wal-Mart. I just have to buy the console FIRST.
@Mystictrust
Yeah, the article says they give you a card that only works online, but they gave me a regular $50 card. I actually DID then turn around and buy groceries while still there.
BTW, the article says the spring bundle has Banjo and Kazooie/Viva Pinata, which mine did, but the article also says there is a memory unit inside, which mine did not have. Did I get gyped? Was I suppose to get a memory unit or not?
I got my 60 GB Xbox 360 for just $200 at the Circuit City going out of business sale in February 09'. Still proud of that purchase, but still sad about Circuity City closing.
Wow, awesome price! Here in Egypt it costs nearly 450$...
@Abu Abdillah In Iran elite is 300$,this must be very cheaper
@Abu Abdillah
Wait, what? US$450 or E£450? Are there tariffs or something?
I'm going to have to start an export business...
@Econ That's the last time I checked, ps3 slim is like 600$, everything is SO expensive here, especially items that aren't commonly used by the population. They are considered for high class citizens who can afford to super mark up in price. Sucks..
@Abu Abdillah In mexico the elite is around 500 usd if not more
Pretty great deal if you don't care about future red-ring of death or going deaf from the fan.
@Shalabi
exactly why I sold my Xbox360 in the first place (for a PS3) - the brick of a power cord and THE AWFUL NOISE (my wife used to close the door in order to get rid of it) not a problem with PS3 (I returned it and exchanged it). PS3 gave me better interface (my opinion), no brick of power cord and a more quiet unit
@meaningof This wasn't a recent version right? I heard the latest Jasper chips are supposed to be ok...I'll live as long as the noise doesn't exceed my old 2003 PS2, fingers crossed.
@Shalabi
I have to wear noise cancelling headphones when I play the 360. The fans, the dvd drive and the powerbrick are all incredibly loud. Now I think it was a deliberate ploy by Microsoft to make me buy the slim console :(
@lfeuln Nah, I use one of the Jasper consoles. Don't hear the fan (definitely not the power brick) and only occasionally hear the disc drive spin up. The new system puts out a lot less heat thanks to the die shrink.
@cgalyon
My 360 doesn't use the Jasper chipset (my brother's does). While his 360 is quieter than mine, I never hear mine unless I'm doing late night gaming (when the volume is almost all the way down). And even then its the disc drive, not the fans.
To solve that issue you just install the game to the hard drive (or an SSD connected via USB ^_^).
im down for another 360. Anyone else?
Wow thus is a great buy
I bought 360 for just 99 Euros new, without games. But with a wifi-controller and a memory card. It was a grand re-opening of a store in my neighbor town.
OK dads, this is how this father's day gift works. You go buy this, you set it up and let your kids play Banjo-Kazooie downstairs while you get your gift from mom upstairs
@ChrisSsk Nice. Lets hope those kids get engrossed for hours, eh.
@thespacecowboy
Or at least five minutes, lol!
@thespacecowboy You mean minutes, amiright? Zing!
@JeanLuc High-five!
@JeanLuc
With me you only need 5 minutes, 'cause I'm so intense!!

They need to advertise this like crazy and follow up with a Kinect commercial. That would move these units.
Can't wait to see my father play MW2!
I was on the fence especially compared to Roku (not a huge gamer but interested in the media capabilities and was also worried I'd regret no hard drive) but now I'm sold. Luckily my airport extreme's in the bedroom so no extra wifi cost needed. And I can get Final Fantasy XIII to boot. Yay!!!
eh your still paying 149.00 so it still 149.99 plus in certain states you cant even get the e-card so yeah your logic is seriously flawed.. as usual go back to reporting apple news it seems its the only thing you really care about here.
@ajac09
bargain forum math
99$
when actually you pay 149.+tax =
more than 149, and def more than 99
i guess not even those simple math classes in HS didnt help
@mkyfkr I only use bargain math if I can take the 50 and spend it somewhere beyond walmart. Which you cant. and you cant get the e-card in a few states due to certain laws (which I live in one of them) so its still 149.99+ taxes and no extra money to spend at fuckmart.
@ajac09 sounds like you need to move to a better state.
