2011 Hyundai Equus user manual to be pre-loaded on a custom iPad
We thought of theiPad as soon as we first heard the 2011 Hyundai Equus would come with its user manual preloaded on a "multimedia tablet" instead of being printed out, and it looks like our hunch was correct: our friends at Autoblog have confirmed that Hyundai will be shipping a 16GB WiFi iPad with every Equus. The iPad will be packaged in a bespoke leather case with an embossed logo, suede interior, and even kickstand -- which'll come in quite handy as the user manual comes complete with video tutorials for many of the car's functions. Updates to the software will happen through iTunes, and the iPad sounds pretty stock otherwise, so that's a nice little perk. Just don't use it while you're driving, okay?

My car needs a jump .. lemme just look that up in the owners manual ... oh wait... my owners manual also needs a jump.
@rockybalboa YOO ADRIEENE!
@purebishop Need your pills or something?
@purebishop
It's commonplace, so STFU about it.
Do you spend your life correcting typos? Pathetic little man. Nilay would kick you IN THE FACE if you weren't so pathetic already
I feel like I just jumped back in time. This was announced, and covered, just after the car was unveiled.
@purebishop
Haha OCD much? I bet 90% of readers don't notice that!! I didn't even notice it when I read your comment, I had to read a reply which mentioned a typo and then I realized. Freak!
Crap car, crap ipad. Perfect combo. I like it when crap companies combine. Making it easier to avoid.
Korean Salsa anyone?
@A25i Stop trollin
@A25i I like when a troller combines my favorite 3 things. Stupidity, anonymous coward, and pussy.
@A25i
troll or not, it is true, they are selling a fashion(*) product altogether with another one fashion(*) product.
(*) the word be replaced by crap, overhyped, overexpensive...
@crob
Only one of those things should be your favorite ;-)
@IEngadget I apologize for the harsh comment. I love this forum, and enjoy most comment-ors, even the outrageous ones. Some hit me the wrong way. I am a Hyundai fan, mostly because they are driving the industry back to life with great cars and great marketing. I am not an IPAD fan, but I think the idea of matching gadgets with gadgets from 2 genre's can't be a completely bad thing.
You still "rocking it raw", Patel? HAHAHAHAHAH
@pukerocket It's commonplace, so being an amateur is acceptable? I fail to see your logic. It's fine that you want to protect your beloved author/editor, but you shouldn't blame me for a mistake I didn't make.
This is a stupid idea if Hyundai indeed goes through with it. Now every little crook will know that there's an iPad inside of each Equus, so the car might have a higher rate of break ins and therefore possibly a higher insurance premium.
But if the owner removes the iPad from the car, then the purpose of having a manual easily accessible is defeated.
If Hyundai doesn't end up putting it in, it's good marketing.
@whiskers
seriously...? do you really think thefts are going to break in just because of an ipad and that is going to lead to a higher insurance premium...?
your assumption is not even worth to build up a counterargument.
@iantolee
I'd like to live in the oblivious utopia that you seem to live in.
@whiskers
I think iantolee may have a point. I remember seeing news stories about a sharp increase in car break-ins because of the GPS navigation devices. Even if only the suction cups were visible, the cars were being broken into.
I wish we can have transition tints that KITT had, which completely obscured the view of the interior on all windows(including the front). Oh, and of course, the indestructible exterior, super pursupo, etc...
@whiskers
why cant a person take the iPad out of their car?
do criminals usually pass up luxury cars on the basis there probably isn't anything of value in it anyway?
That iPad will look great with grease and dirt all over it after you finish replacing your air filter. Flipping the pages of a manual was always easy because you didn't care how dirty the manual got.
@iamjared
I know that there are some exceptions, but most people who buy a $50-$60k car are not changing their own air filters.
Sorry.
@iamjared
Every criminal is going to know there's an Ipad in one of these, and that's gonna increase the rate of break ins?
I'm amazed you sat there and came up with that. Sounds like you have no experience out in the real world
@purebishop
Chill out dude, it's not the end of the world.
If you have to bundle your new car model with an iPad in order to increase sales you blew it.
@muol If you're still using that tired out phrase you now you definitely blew it.
@ashleythehottiest *Know
@ashleythehottiest
But does it play Crysis?
@purebishop
Well, whenever Engadget posts that they are hiring tech writers but also say that "writing experience" is not necessary, this is the level of writers they get. I believe even though this is a tech blog, a writing background or experience is a must.
I noticed that all the tags are misspelled as well. So does that mean people who are searching for Hyundai tags won't find this story? That's kinda funny.
@purebishop
I just think a man of your intelligence should have something better to do with your time.
Maybe you're just lonely and correcting the typo made you feel like you were somebody for a few minutes.
I never blamed you for anything. If only your comprehension was as good as your spelling, eh?
Don't use while driving?? Geez. It makes such a superior GPS-like display...
Actually, that's the thing. They've put the best instrument panel in the entire car inside a sueded leather case.
Ahem.
The dash should have a place to clip it in, and on-wheel controls should raise/lower brightness.
I like how you take this as a personal attack and justify my comment by replying, even though it is entirely unrelated to all of you. Thank you, everyone. Maybe Mr. Patel will get the hint.
Equus? Will it also come preloaded with a naked Harry Potter?
@purebishop
I think you should know by now that Patel only spell checks words that are fruits and iSomethings
I would rather get the IDC GEMINI. Something that works. Has good wireless and Flash.
@Crazy J why doesnt he work for TUAW then
@purebishop
What personal attack?? You're the one who said I was blaming you, so the only one taking it as a personal attack as you.
Wow. You are stupid as hell. Go away.
This just in: Hyundai Equus is now the most broken into car ever.
Also in the news, stolen iPad sales are through the roof!
What happens to all your downloaded apps when you eventually sell the car (and presumably, the iPad with it)? What about all the rest of the personalization that people will want to do with this? Since I don't have any Apple products, I really don't know how this works.
I'm assuming most people aren't going to keep their iPad stock with just the owner's manual on it.
This is fantastic news. My wife won't let me buy an iPad. But if it comes with a free car... she can't refuse! Posted from my Droid.
I'm still looking forward to the Equus but this... this makes no sense at all. History has proven that it is better to have a physical item than a virtual one.
The Equus is an Amazing vehicle.. at Orlando Hyundai, we've had the first ride in one.. and it more beautiful in person than in pictures! Not to mention the ipad that comes along with it as "innovative" way to get rid of papers and move on with greener ideas. Please check out our site at http://www.orlandohyundai.com
