Like it or not, we've got yet another
3D laptop headed your way. Presumably slotted into NVIDIA's
newly created 3D PC lineup, Toshiba's Satellite A665-3DV is the outfit's
very first 3D lappie, boasting a Core i7-740QM quad-core processor, Windows 7 Home Premium, 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 640GB hard drive, NVIDIA's GeForce GTS 350M (1GB), a Blu-ray burner, LED backlit keyboard and 802.11n WiFi. There's also a built-in webcam and a trackpad that looks awfully off-center from here, but all of that pales in comparison to the almighty 1,366 x 768 native resolution spanning the 15.6-inch panel. You heard right -- there's a BD drive and support for 3D, but you can forget about enjoying either in Full HD. But hey, why else would you make use of that HDMI socket? Check it right this very moment for $1,599.99.
hopefully it drop below $1000 by holiday season.
@techlord
Trackpad is not off-center. Its in the center of the keyboad minus numpad.
It is done that way on all the laptops having numpads for convenience.
I got an old HP laptop that had the track-pad centered when the keys were off set, because of the numpad, and I completely hated the thing. I used my old laptop that was a dinosaur compared to it. It was hard to type anything on the laptop you hit the track-pad with the palm of your hand moving the pointer.
If I see any laptop that does not put the track-pad at the center of the space-bar I will not even consider it as a possible purchase no mater how good the rest of the hardware is. In my eyes the track-pad is centered to the keyboard as it should be.
@coolkams03
not true. from the picture the trackpad doesn't even look like it's in the centre of the keyboard.
@dedparrot
it is centered to the spacebar, which is in the centre of the qwertyuiop part of the keyboard, as opposed to the keyboard as a whole.
Why do so many laptops have the trackpad off-center like that? I don't get it.
@Gordon so u don't accidently touch it when u type?
@Gordon it's actually all laptops with a numpad, because it IS centralised to the qwerty keyboard
@Gordon
Yea I wonder this too, really weird.
@brrip Ohhh, that makes sense, then. I don't like the qwerty keyboard being off-center from the monitor, but it makes sense.
@Gordon
It's on a bit on the left side because this laptop has a numpad.
So you want the trackpad right under your spacebar. If that thing was a bit more to the right side,,, well u will be kicking urself everytime when u use the arrow keys (like in a game) when u accidently touch the damm trackpad with ur wrist.
@Gordon
It's funny how on any new laptop story it breaks out into a discussion about the touchpad not being centred to the laptop! :-)
Sweet...
When are they going to stop selling those horrible displays?
@StanT agreed. the resolution provided would nothing short of ugly on such a big screen
@StanT Yea, almost had me till I saw the 1366x768 resolution.
@StanT Seriously. I LOVE my 16 inch 1080p Dell Studio XPS laptop with the RGB LED backlight. Brilliant colors, great resolution. And the lame thing was, it was about the ONLY good screen on a sub $2k laptop avaliable. Trying to find an LED backlit 1080p screen at 16" or less last summer was almost impossible! I'd buy a brand new one if it had the rest of the specs of this toshiba though. I do 3D modelling, and I've been curious if 3D would help!

I mean this is great and all...but when is the damm iOS 4 being released...LOL...sorry...
@fresnogamer
Dots. People should stop trolling.
Yes, it's definitely wroth the $1,600...
I don't know why the off centered track pad is bothering me so much
@Scrubs
Like stated before, it's centered to the QWERTY keyboard. Just think of it as smart (read: CORRECT) product design. That might help.
If you want to really go there, start thinking about how, when you're typing, your hands are off-center.
i'd buy it, but keep the 3D off.
hope it has good cooling, an i7 + GT350? gonna be hot as hell.
Toshiba still makes laptops?
The display is nice, but the resolution is a little low. I have the same screen in effect and while I find it good enough (considering I have a second monitor too) it wouldn't look bad being 1080p or something.
And honestly, the off-center trackpad is annoying really. Whenever I type I seem to accidentally move the mouse. Problem solved by turning off the trackpad and using a wireless mouse.
3d fanboyz lol.
that means 120hz display!? O_O
Who are these people that are actually buying 3D screens?!
@jankum
Not me. My eyes are already crossed. I've lost all depth perception, and I blame technology.
The gfx card isn't good enough to deliver 3D gaming (everything will be divided by two)
Would anyone really actually buy something with such an horrendously pathetic resolution? 1080 is weak enough (I wouldn't even consider anything less than 1200) but 768 is really just a huge joke, from 2002.
If they chose DDR memory for the GPU, then don't even try it. If they chose the GDDR5 variant, then it's still not great, but it's a little bit better.
When will this machine launched in India?????
does ne1 knw?
