Gateway Launches Uber-Chic New Gateway ID Series Notebook
Modern, streamlined design features glowing aqua-blue touchpad; Select models have NVIDIA Optimus technology for ideal balance of graphics performance and battery life
IRVINE, Calif., June 23, 2010 – Gateway today brings unique style elements to a new notebook PC line – the Gateway ID Series – which is designed to deliver the latest in mobile technology in a thin and lightweight design that is modern, chic and eye-catching.
The Gateway ID Series comes in a sleek silver casing that is punctuated by a unique aqua-blue touchpad that glows when touched, acting as a beacon for accessing entertainment and information. The Gateway ID Series will be available in two sizes: the Gateway ID49 has a 14-inch HD Ultrabright LED-backlit display and weighs 5.07 pounds, while the Gateway ID59 has a 15.6-inch HD Ultrabright LED-backlit display and weighs 5.5 pounds. The Gateway ID Series is protected by an aluminium alloy lid and measures only a slim 1-inch thin, so the notebooks are comfortable to carry and easily slide into a briefcase or book bag.
In addition, select models of the new Gateway ID49 Series feature NVIDIA Optimus graphics technology, which intelligently regulates the notebook's use of dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics or integrated Intel HD graphics, depending on the task its performing. The notebook will use NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M dedicated graphics while running video, games and multimedia applications to ensure the visuals are incredibly crisp and clear. Alternately, the notebook will switch to integrated Intel HD graphics when less demanding programs are being used, such as browsing websites, or working on documents and spreadsheets. As a result, the NVIDIA Optimus technology ensures that battery life is extended for longer enjoyment.(1)

The most striking element of the new Gateway ID Series notebooks is the aqua-blue touchpad that resembles matte glass when not lit, and then glows when touched. The Gateway ID Series was designed to be incredibly comfortable and easy to use. Ready for on-the-go mobile performance with the latest in technology and features, the Gateway ID Series includes Intel Core i3 and Core i5 processing technology boosted by up to 4GB of DDR3 memory. Both the Gateway ID59 and ID49 feature widescreen LED-backlit displays with a 1366x768 resolution, so visuals are crisp and clear. @dansus I actually don't hate those keys (I had them on a gateway netbook). Mind you I returned that netbook two days after I bought it, so it still doesn't bode very well for the brand.

I love Gateway for their huge screens. What is a Gateway without a huge screen? An average laptop.
@Trickymaster A gateway laptop without a huge screen is a gateway laptop. A laptop with a huge display is a hp, dell, acer, gateway, sony, apple, asus, and many other brands that makes laptops with huge displays. I hate gateways, because my first experience was really bad. I had a gateway computer, and it worked for a few days, and then after 2 days, it just died on me. It would turn on, but display nothing, and shut down in a few seconds. So I hate them. And their support sucked.
you know Acer owns Gateway, right?
I have had a Gateway Netbook for almost a year now. When it came to market it was the only mainstream Netbook of its type. IT uses an AMD Athlon L110 single core processor has 2GB of ram and 250GB HDD, and an 11.6" 1366 x 768 screen. It came with Vista Basic. I've played with this Gateway with the glowing trackpad at Best Buy... Feels way too cheap, much better alternatives for around the 650 dollar price point with the same i3/500Gb specs.. Keys on the keyboard feel as if they will fall off and there is a lot of flex, i'm sure it'll sell well though because people will be amused by the light. :)

I was actually surprised with the gateway quality. The computer looks and feels much better than older models. It almost looked like the new Samsung that just came out. The silver color is nice, the touch pad seems to only come on when you click something as some sort of confirmation it clicked. For the price you are getting a VERY tiny laptop, which is why it might feel cheap to you. Some of the NEW HPs are getting the fingerprint reader and will feel cheap also. I think this is more to cut weight then actually make it out of cheap products.
Having played with the gateway, yes the trackpad is cool, although annoying. For the price you get a VERY small laptop but some bestbuys have the new toshiba for $599 in the add which has same specs but bigger size. Get this Gateway on sale for $599 and i'd say its worth it.
@scubastevie I would definitely say that it's higher quality than the black older models.. Keyboard is a lot better and is actually usable as it's not totally flat.. I don't like the clickpad myself but yes, it's an improvement. There is an Asus 14 inch in the same price range however which I would jump on over this.

We got this at work. Yea the effects are cool but the delivery is off, the pad isnt the best to use and confusing at times and the combination of the key piece color and the letter color make for a hard time to tell what is what unless ur close
I really dont understand why people down Gateway. I think because of their past and thats not whats important its about who they are now and Gateway is a really good company and negative comments are really ridiculous. Gateway makes good computers and you get great deals for what you get, most of the time if a gateway messes up really early its on your behalf. Soo good luck Gateway and im glad youre on top and i hope it stays that way.
