Windows 7 hits 150 million licenses: that's seven copies a second
If Steve Ballmer's still pumped eight months later, there's a good reason -- Windows 7 has reportedly sold its 150 millionth copy, just two months after crossing the 100 million mark. If you run the numbers -- and we have -- that translates to roughly seven licenses sold per second since launch, a very convenient number for Microsoft to tout in their marketing communications from here on out. Perhaps execs can celebrate with a nice Windows 7 Whopper, topped with a fresh .dll pickle.

Oh the pic : )
@Pipera Ballmer = God
@Pipera ahaha yea, and wait how many are counterfeit :P
@Pipera that is his O Face
@victorvelasco1
Pirated copies don't have licenses *sold* to them.
@Pipera
DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS !!!!!!!
@Psyclotr0n OAAAARHAHRARHAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
@Twoleaf
No! No, no. NO!
@Pipera
With all that money, why so much hair loss?
@Pipera Win does win!
@paul34 ur right i worded wrong. so its 150 mill plus x amount cause x is counterfeit
@seanGadget Bald can be cool, case in point, Patrick Stewart!
But he should have learned from Whoopi Goldberg's mistake and not shaved his eyebrows off.
Windows 7 hits 150 million licenses: that's seven copies a second; with only 7 days left in the month and before the beginning of the 7th month of the year...
@Plazmic Flame
777, so is that like 666, except luckier?
@Psyclotr0n
DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS
@victorvelasco1
are you stupid?
@Plazmic Flame Its also the same number of iphone 4s sold per second on the first day of preorders... Spooky...but this is over way longer so msft pwns apl :)
@Ducman69
Holy crap! where are that guy's eyebrows!?!
@jivetrky
I think he went Super Saiyan Level -3
@seanGadget 150 million licenses and they probably still haven't turned a profit! All those pesky netbooks cutting into the profits!!!
@Pipera He would've been pissing his pants if the other 150 million weren't pirate...
@scotty1024
what are you talking about? they make money on netbooks too
@DoctarPeppar
No. It's more like: OEMS OEMS OEMS.
The number of Windows 7 licenses is just the number of PCs sold. If it weren't Windows 7, then it would be Windows Vista, or XP or some version of MS-DOS.
Our new monopoly product has sold well. Yippie.
At best, you can claim that end uses aren't going out of their way to avoid it (like they did with Vista).
OTOH, it does put the "3 million iPads" into perspective.
@seanGadget maybe thats the key to success, I see Steve jobs is also loosing his hair and iphone sales are up there... Maybe there is some unknown correlation :)
@jedi And those that have upgraded from XP and Vista.
That is about all Microsoft is anymore... just a computer operating system
@MrErv Yeah, because Microsoft doesn't do software, or games, or a search engine etc.. just the OS right ? oh wait...
@Pipera
How's this: W7 sells 50% more licenses in 8 months than OSX has ever sold.
@spawn782
I just lol'd
@Pipera i got mine for free and sent personally to me from Microsoft.
@Pipera
Has windows 7 even proved itself enough to warrant this amount if liscensing?
So basically, Windows 7 is so awesome that they were able to sell that many copies IN SPITE of having that weird looking blowhard as the face of the company.
Well done engineering team!
@Ducman69
I don't think many people outside of the remotely techy comunity know who Ballmer is, let alone know what he looks like.
@Dafrety
Yeah, people outside the geeky tech world generally don't even know what Bill Gates looks like. And he's much more well known than Ballmer.
@Ducman69
Dafrety's right. Hell, I can mention Steve Jobs and most people don't know who he is.
seriously though, not that his sweaty voice-breaking scream shows aren't entertaining, but why can't they have a cute face of the company like Mo for Progressive Auto or if they insist on using someone with no eyebrows like Steve Ballmer, perhaps the Geico gecko.
Or, and stop me if this is in poor taste, wheel in Stephen Hawking using Microsoft Sam for his voice. Always a likable guy if he'd take the gig.
PS:
@Ducman69
I must know teh PS!
@zomg0t Oh, my "heart" code must have cut it off. I was just giving last props on W7, Office 2010, and wish em luck on WM7. They seem to be back on track again.
@Dafrety Luckily.
@Dafrety I agree. I only know who he is because of the failed takeover of Yahoo.
@maddawg579 Youre an idiot, you dont think Gates has been on the news, and in the papers, and on Forbes?
@maddawg579 Uhh, check out the newest issue of FORTUNE. He's on the front cover with Warren Buffett.
@Ducman69
That face somehow sells! I wonder if those number do indeed translate into 150+ Millions of Phones! if so then damn Apple you are screwed because that's insane. Watch out Android! Nice for competition eh!
@AssassinX Right...everyone read fortune....
@Ducman69
Are you kidding me?? Balmer is like a one man internet meme all by his lonesome. Money can't buy that!
@Ducman69
No wonder. It really is a great OS.
@Ducman69
Because some of us are smart enough to buy stuff from someone who is "cute" because they are cute. See that's what apple does.. they like style over substance. I know it a hard thing to understand that being "cute" doesn't make you smart, moral, or a good person.. it just means you are cute. Sadly today it also means you think you deserve something for being cute..
@Ducman69
Mo? Isn't it Flo?
Mine is pirated, of course :D
@strawe
I always think its pretty dumb when I hear people say that they spend $1000 on a computer, $60 per month on internet, $55 on a new videogame, $50 a month on a cell phone $70 on a tank of gas.
And then try to argue that the OS on their computer that they will use 4 hrs a day for 2 years is not worth $100 (hell.. not worth $70). If you aren't a power user, use Linux (its pretty good now) or whatever came with your PC.. but if you want a reliable, feature rich, secure OS for the device you use EVERY DAY.. please support the people who make it possible.
You sir are an asshole
