@strawe I always think its pretty dumb when I hear people say that they spend $1000 on a computer, $60 per month on internet, $55 on a new videogame, $50 a month on a cell phone $70 on a tank of gas.
And then try to argue that the OS on their computer that they will use 4 hrs a day for 2 years is not worth $100 (hell.. not worth $70). If you aren't a power user, use Linux (its pretty good now) or whatever came with your PC.. but if you want a reliable, feature rich, secure OS for the device you use EVERY DAY.. please support the people who make it possible.
My one install of Win 7 came with a $250 refurb computer to replace my wife's old computer. My wife didn't care for 7 when she tried it. I played around with 7 while I was downloading Ubuntu 10.4. Now the computer is dual boot, but really hasn't been booted into 7 since setting up Ubuntu.
I wonder if that machine counts as 1 Win 7 sale, or 2. Once for the original owner and once for us?
I agree that people should buy the products they use, but I'd say that it's better for Microsoft if you pirate it instead of using products from the competition, as that way they'll at least widen their user-base even tought they're still losing sales. Of course that's no justification, but it is what it is.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Mine is pirated, of course :D
