Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"As someone who doesn't reside in the USA, I was wondering what would be the best way to get internet for my computer in the US for a couple of weeks? If it were Europe I know I'd look for some prepaid data. Is there anything similar offered by American carriers? A MiFi or a data SIM that I can tether from would work, but I'm trying to maintain a tight budget. Help!"
@Missing Matter As much as I agree with you, that will never happen unfortunately.
@Nitesh that's what she said...
@liftedngifted1 yea just another money robbing ploy by Apple.. But i'm never paying 30 bucks for a piece of rubber, no matter what Apple tells us. I'll just get an ebay case, and I'll be good.
@Vexorg
Son (Engadget): Daddy, this iStuff is not working properly.
Apple (Parent): Dumb ass, hold it like this!
Frankly, it will take a while for Apple to get this right. Apple is not a phone company. There's a great difference between computing and Radio Frequencey (RF) and RF is not a field that you just buy a module, bump it on a board and configure based on formulas. No! experience is very much required. 2 years I did this as a personal study and see the oscilloscope swing based on my body movement.
Nokia has this experience and Apple has this UI thing. I believe the only way they could solve this is to give the phony section of the design to a proper RF experienced company like Nokia while they handle the look and feel and the digital side. Aside that, it will take them some time to understand RF properly and implement it the right way.
@MosesusedaniPad Best comment ever, Amen.

HUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!
@musback i must reply. Love it.

They never even apologized! This is just nuts. I will never buy or support an apple product again. This company needs some humility and respect for consumers in its corporate culture.
@blindguymcsqueezy This was definitely noticed before. Remember how they stopped selling other peoples cases in the apple stores a while ago and how the PR was that you don't need a case. Now they are going to sell a ton of their own "bumpers" at an inflated price. I'm sorry but was a major design flaw that they probably didn't notice until it was too late. It's weird that someone so picky about the look and feel of his products is fine with people covering it up with a bra. He's not but he has no choice now.
@Vexorg
Another reason I'm sticking with Verizon Wireless and my Palm Pre Plus! Thanks Steve!
@Joe007 Sorry, but if you stand in line for multiple hours for anything non-limited in number (as opposed, to, say, concert tix), you're a fanboy.
@Revolutionary - NOOOOOOO! NOT MY PRECIOUS iDEVICE!! IT'S GOT TO BE AT&T's FAULT! PLEASE MAKE IT AT&T's FAULT! AND YOU, WITH THE $50 SAMSUNG IN YOUR LEFT HAND WITH 5 BARS, STOP LAUGHING AT ME!!
PS More AT&T vindication! But you wont here peep about it and all those bashers will never fess up. So FUCK OFF Verizon Kool-Aid drinkers and iPhone sycophants, FUCK OFF I TELL YA! ;^)...
@ilikepeanuts02
BrooklynFinest where are youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu??
@Vexorg
Soon Mr Jobs will teach us how to be proper iPeople...
@Vexorg
Steve Jobs should put in the manual/booklet on how to hold your iphone correctly. :p
lol
@Vexorg exactly! lol
Iphone, it's not really a phone, it's a lifestyle.
@Vexorg Apple is releasing some new iReception Boosters: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1014/4733457164_1b0cba8aee_b.jpg
@Vexorg
Any other company and this would have been a class-action lawsuit. Apple gets away with it, just like that!!
@Dig Deep OMG FAIL - Apple Tape!
@DoctarPeppar
There is a difference with the new iPhone. The antenna's conductive element is where your hand can difrectly touch it making the problem much more pronounced.
Like most phones now my Incredible has the antenna in the bottom but it's behind the plastic cover so my hand covers the antenna, it doesn't ground the antenna and kill signal. I may lose a bar or two by holding the bottom but calls don't drop.
Antennas are tuned to the frequency they use. If you change that tuning by adding a conductor (like the human body) to the mix you signal will drop alot more than just covering a bit of the antenna with your hand.

@Yankees Win
Well then, sell your shares, and don't buy the phone. Quit whining!
Perhaps steve was holding it wrong when he tried to use the video app when it was revealed
@Vexorg Somewhere in Cupertino it seems I can hear,
"If you didn't buy the Bumper, and have reception issues, you missed it!" - Steve Jobs
@Bully
has anyone told him about the problems he might run into
CDMA!
@Vexorg Having been a sound engineer for some 30 years, I have suffered on many occasions drop outs through wireless devices of all kinds - some very public like at Live Aid. As always, you have to keep things in perspective else we would never adopt any advances in technology. Of course, those who feel they have been 'technically' short changed have the right to comment, but I would ask that some take the time to try and understand some of the laws of physics and some of the limitations and issues surrounding radio transmissions. I am sure someone else has already mentioned the placement of antenna in all mobile phones - they are, after all, small devices and there is a limitation as to where you can place an antenna. This is compounded by the need to reduce the 'possible' effects of direct transmission waves to the head, something the authorities and we the public are very concerned about. Lastly, we have to acknowledge that all technology brings benefits but also a cost. The IPhone 4 can not be thought of as 'just a phone' It is a hand held computer, diary, web browser, camera, Video maker, the list is endless. We should be grateful that we live in a time that is technically exciting and challenging, that we can afford a £500 phone, that we don't live in squaller in a third world country with no food or water. My IPhone does what it says on the tin, the signal drops out occasionally, I move my hand it gets better. Its a fairly minor issue in ones life. That's, if like me you have one?
@Jordan
Have you tried this with the device? It is really hard to reproduce. Most people are not going to hold their hand in that position in any case - it is sort of a crazy way to hold the phone.
That's what you get for being so cocky Apple. Now you're gonna loose your reputation and the trust of thousands of non-fanboys who were already having their doubts.
For all the fanboys however it wouldn't really matter what issues the iPhone has as long as its cool to look at. Maybe Apple should start selling only iPhone 4 cases only for showing off since you won't be able to make calls on any of them. :D
@Trashbat
anyone who's got four fingers, an opposable digit, and a palm. how do YOU hold your phone? Do you not rest it in the cradle of your hand, or do you hold it with 3 fingers, careful not to touch the sides?
@theweeklymancast dave So in Soviet Russia, call drop YOU!?
In Apple Sponsored Engadget, iSheep troll YOU!
@Yankees Win Dont forget about the jedi mind trick that he tried....let me see it went like this.....Picture this has he slowly waves his hand across the room "You don't need mulitasking." Only to release it on the iphone 4...which cant even make phone calls. So is it still multitasking if you can't make phone calls?
@blindguymcsqueezy
"Should of"? Are you kidding? It's "should have". Dumbass.
