T-Mobile USA's Samsung Galaxy S to be called 'Vibrant'
So, we know AT&T's version of the Galaxy S is called the Captivate -- but what about T-Mobile? Earlier rumors that it'd be called "Vibrant" are all but confirmed today thanks to a carrier-run site that's slowly revealing a rebus puzzle... and so far, we can clearly see Sam + Sun + G and Viking - King + [unknown] + Ant. So yeah, that pretty much locks it up -- and with a Super AMOLED display on board, we'd say the name fits perfectly (and TmoNews claims to have the original image anyway, where the unknown portion is Bee + R). We're expecting some sort of US-focused Galaxy S announcement out of Sammy next Tuesday, so we imagine this'll be it.

Whole thing here:

@oardietrying
wait a min...the link I just gave is the same as the one you source...did you even look at it? Why play coy and say "[unknown]"?
Source, Edge, Flow, Granite, Solar, Creed, Volt. Handset makers are free to use these stupid names for their phones.
@1 Infinite Loop Cupertino CA -1 for using "Edge" as the name of a phone as it's obsolete wireless tech
@oardietrying
Androidandme just gave the whole thing yesterday...
That's a bee under there.
Dont ever buy Samsung's android device, well, maybe even all Samsung's products. Look at what happen to what it did to Behold II owners, you can see that Samsung is not truth worthy!
Two thoughts!
With all these galaxy's coming out (every carrier except verizon) they all seem exactly the same(exept bloatware) in features. It seems kinda funny that this phone is getting more market penetration than th N1.
Also if i could choose one it would obviously be the sprint 4g(galaxy s pro?) version because on stprints plan with the 4g charge its still 10-30 bucks less than its competitors.
@oardietrying Probably going to be called the Samsung Vibrant. I see a bee in the bottom left and whats left of an ant in the right. So do I get a prize for figuring it out now?
@lv2bll54 N1 = poor marketing and product placement, still I defintely would've loved no device to succeed more just so it could be an even bigger game changer (mostly in the U.S. but in a few other markets as well.)
Besides the fact that N1 will receive great support, this device beats it. Better processor, better screen, better battery, better placement with carriers (they don't like being cut out so that's why some delayed acceptance before ultimately cancelling their plans). All that results in greater market penetration.
Why does this site still think the picture is a mystery?
Its done in Silverlight..
@jhc619 whteve dude. most android ppl just root it. hardware is awesome and that's all you need from sammy.
@lv2bll54 I looked at getting an Evo, and with the 4G charge (which is worthless to me, as my area doesn't have 4G), I would be paying $25 more a month to be on Sprint than on T-Mobile.
@lv2bll54 that's the gsm version?
I liked "Galaxy S" better.
@Nitesh
Yep, I'm going to refer to all these phones as Galaxy Ss.
@Nitesh
It's still the Galaxy S. The codenames "Vibrant" and "Captivate" are just to differentiate the phones because they look different.
not the same phones... they dont have front facing cams ....
@Nitesh
Unless this is a marketing exercise to see which name the public likes more, I think it will hurt the phone to have multiple brands. The custom-branding may be at the whims of the carriers, though.
It's nice, however, that this phone is being released on many different carriers. I have a feeling that this will be a VERY popular device worldwide and will be the new android flagship.
@MagnetMan Can it be the new Android flagship without FroYo?
No flash with this so don't expect the camera quality to be all so vibrant.
@ComeShot: but no dropped calls and low signal when touching it... this is vibrant ;)
@ComeShot If you had even the slightest clue about photography, you'd know that those idiotic, gimmick, led flashlights only make bad phone photos worse.
@ComeShot I'm on t-mobile and not eager to change carriers. I do need to replace my G1 this looks like a winner... but damn why no flash?
@abnorm bullshit. I mean we're talking about pictures taken with a phone. As long as the quality is decent enough to post online I don't care. I can't count the amount of times photos on my g1 turn out black or super dark.
@abnorm
Ya but it really helps when light is nonexistant
@Bskballa92 Unless you are taking a photo of a person. All the photos I take in pubs of friends with my Nexus One are just pictures of them squinting at the blinding LED (it's really damn bright!). With a xenon flash you don't have time to react. With an LED flash you definitely do. I usually turn it off and go monochrome to escape the chroma noise.
@ComeShot It's a phone, not a camera. I don't rely on a phone to take vibrant pics. I use my Pentax K2000 to take real photos.
@dartox
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! Good one!!!!!!:D
Wave is much better, okey it could be greater but hell it´s Android free
@flanger Prefer Bada to Android? Hate Google? Care to elaborate?
@juanvaldez
look at Androidtrashstore, full of crap, its pathetic. How do you want to take advantage of the outstanding Galaxy HW, when it´s only loaded with "pong" or "tetris"?
Bada has way more potential, as it´s like Apples closed system, which commercial labels like Gameloft,Capcom,EA prefer, actually they have already contracted.
Asphalt 5, Route66 are just early examples, Sygic will join soon.
@flanger Um... what about the Gameloft and EA games that are currently for android? Those don't count?
@flanger Yes, and Samsung is throwing money to developers which never hurts either. Also, they will be able to control the hardware, if they chose, to make it easier on developers...have to see what they do...
But, I guess if I wanted a closed-marketplace I'd still be in the iPhone camp. Still, even if you don't like the marketplace in it's current form, it's hard to imagine that if Android has 3-5x the market share of Bada, in let's say 2015, that developers will prefer to develop only for Bada when there will be WP7 & Apple, plus a marketplace that is much larger than Bada.
@juanvaldez
I see in Android a place for amateur software engineers, which do their first steps with it and collect xperiences. it´s just a palyground.
Look at desktop Linux OSes like Ubuntu, NO quality Software, just semi beta crap, this is the same way Android will go.
Get in your mind that Samsung is Worlds second greatest phone manufacturer, not with smartphone OS.
Bada does not only visually imitate iphone OS, it´s written with C++ just like iOS, so it won´t be too hard to port Apps.
Hmm yea WP7 is also very promising, due to XNA and so, that´s why i also see WP7 ahead of Android.
Maybe Android will quantitatively the winner as it will run on every cheap low budget phone, but count is not everthing, look at Nokia
bada better than android????
to each his own but you by yourself on that one!
Look at the 5 best phones out now and tell me that again
HTC and MOTO aren't going to bada to sell phones are they?
@flanger No quality software on linux? You are completely clueless.
@flanger Wow... You just put down the entire open source community telling them they are child's play, in so many words....
Pretty amazing effort you've made.
@flanger Oh... and iOS apps are written in Objective-C
@flanger I know plenty how large Samsung is and I'm actually a fan, I think unlike 98% of people here that Bada is a good thing for them. I actually was willing to take the plunge until I heard they wanted it to be a closed marketplace. I don't think closing a marketplace makes it more profitable for developers, in fact theoretically it'd make it less profitable for developers and with less choice.
I think you're confusing the reasons for the differing levels of support between Windows & Linux, and it has as much to do with hardware constraints (well, drivers) and the lack of adoption (not claiming to be an expert, but you seem biased so not really sure how you will convince me without a source article or fool-proof logic). Android doesn't have these same issues.
@lv2bll54
ok, you are a troll
*ignore mode on*
@juanvaldez
ah sorry i didnt ment u
@lv2bll54
Ok you are obviously a troll
*ignore mode on*
@flanger
lol engadget comment system is a joke
I imagine it will be better than the captivate which AT&T only partially held captive (no front-facing camera), sorry for the bad joke.
I suppose using a "bra" image instead of that of a bee and having to put a letter 'r' (and hence going against the pictorial theme) would have been bad marketing?
@maxxum Leaving out the cup? Yeah, if you're going bra you gotta have a boob with it, sex sells.
@maxxum
But, then you need something to represent "nt."
@tranquilnight
Bra + **nt ...nice..
Meh.
Samsung is out for me regardless due to their promising to update and then failing to follow through on said updates with both a winmo and android phone that I know of...maybe more.
@oardietrying
haha and u think HTC will be better?
my warning is for zero but if you prefer to pay for your lesson, then go buy an htc
