Windows Phone 7's October release casually mentioned in Microsoft ad presentation
"I'm gonna ask rock star Kostas... to come on. And Kostas has brought with him Windows Phone 7, which we launch this October." So sayeth Microsoft VP for Marketing Mich Mathews in introducing GM of Live Labs' Kostas Mallios, who was at the Cannes Lions advertising conference to show off the advertising capabilities of the upcoming smartphone platform. Of course, last we heard, the official company line on WP7's release was "holiday 2010," so this would definitely narrow the launch window quite a bit, as well as corroborates earlier Telstra roadmap leaks. Not an official statement, but Mathews would definitely be someone in the know here. Don't expect the folks in Redmond to go ahead and confirm -- they work on their own schedule, thank you very much -- but should someone 'fess up, can we also talk about that $150 Kinect price? Video after the break.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

For Microsoft sake, i hope this one is a winner
@The Geek
Me too.
....and is it just me or is everything being released in November of this year?
Kinect, Win Phone 7, Boxee Box...
Looks like I need to start saving up those bills if I want to be able to pay the bills come Nov.
@abedinthehouse
wow wtff?!?!?
Either the article just changed on me to October or I was seeing things....
=/
Opps, well either way October-November spread, lots of things to look forward to..
@The Geek
They have a sell with me already.
Zune on my computer,xbox 360, tv, and in my phone where ever i go.
@abedinthehouse
I guess i'm waiting a few more months to get my new phone. *sigh*
E63, you better not break on me. I so don't want to go back to my first gen iPhone. Slow is an understatement.
@The Geek Dam So In October We should have Epic Comment Battle's Android vs iOS vs Windows Phone 7
@The Geek It looked good at announce, but kin Is terrible, if it's anything like kin it will suck, but it probably won't be anything like kin
Most of this I actually already knew, except the "toast thing."
I was actually getting pretty mad when I herd ads and news can still come up even if an app is not pinned and active UNTIL I herd that users can 'opt out' of all of that. So good for you MSFT, make devs and advertisers happy by offering them more ways to bug us, AND make us happy by offering us to 'opt out' of the advertisers alerts and notifications (unless we want to know more of course). Looks like a win win for me, and them, and every1. [=
@The Geek
i cant effin wait.
October???
So we either get tricked or a treat...
@operationnightscratch
it is a very serious design defect that engineering and QA missed. The phones were field tested in cases to disguise the phone, and thus the issue was probably never seen or it was discovered late during production. It's possible that an Apple engineer found the defect in the production cycle, and as usual some CEO weighed the cost of starting over vs. bullshitting a bunch of consumers
@The Geek
I think with Gingerbread solving fragmentation once and for all (goodbye MotoBlur, Sense and TouchWiz), it'll be facing brutal competition.
@The Geek
so i guess holiday 2010 was halloween? who would have guessed lol
@The Geek [takes picture with the blonde chick, looks at it] Definitely a winner.
@The Geek you dont have to hope windows 7 just sold 150 million liscenses...
@liftedngifted1 lol... Don't we already have that everyday everytime an iPhone/Android post appears?
@The Geek
being left handed, its already a winner with me
@The Geek I also hope it is a winner and comes on winner hardware. Part of what sells a phone is the hardware and if they only release it on clunky fat bricks, with small screens initially it may not get much buzz.
I like the EVO hardware a lot, I'm hoping they go in that direction, make it a teeny bit thinner, improve quality control on the screen assembly.
However perhaps by the time WP7 is available on Sprint (my provider) in a hardware platform I like, Android 2.3 might be out and fix some of the remaining issues that keep me from going android. 2.2 is a HUGE step forward, too bad you can't just slap sense on any version of android to improve the interface, I think 2.2 would really get more people interest in getting an android phone but still are on the fence.
@The Geek For shareholders' sake, this had better kick ass.
@kid300 Just admit androids ugly
which explains the un-apple-like colored rubber things
that is a cheap way to do it apple nice job
@The Geek
For the consumer's sake. Microsoft has been selling seven copies of Windows 7 per second. Remember?
@The Geek
For Apple's sake, I hope Steve Ballmer remains CEO of Microsoft for another 20 years.
@The Geek Why would 7 need to be a winner? According to Engadget commenters, 6.5 is perfectly capable of competing and is even superior in many ways!
@liftedngifted1 and RIM
So when they said "Holiday 2010" they meant Halloween.
Can it make calls like my iPhone 4? Oh wait....
@Mateen110
I dont get it, is that a zing at MSFT or Apple?
@abedinthehouse Apple.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/24/apple-responds-over-iphone-4-reception-issues-youre-holding-th/
Bad way to address the issue
@Mateen110 I'm not sure if he is saying that "his" iPhone 4 can't make calls, or if he's saying can it make video calls, and then saying oh wait to make it unfunny, or maybe he just has a weird sense of humor that no one understands and that made no sense
@That guy 2 Maybe he's just trying to troll to get attention..
@jayjaync
or maybes hes making a joke about the crappy iphone design? Joking doesnt mean youre trolling, we know it pisses you off that he disses your favorite phone but sorry not trolling
@kid300 Just admit androids ugly
Well then I simply didn't get it right,
and no I don't have an Iphone4 (got a 3G though, was a gift, don't really care about phones personnaly) and I'm not a Fanboy =)
But hey, If everytime somebody doesn't find a joke about an Iphone (that we heard/read 500 times already) funny, I guess it makes a lot of people apple fanboys and blahblahblah
In my opinion when you post a comment that has been seen on a number of different posts before, doesn't add to the discussion, I find it really close to being a troll.
But again, if by calling him troll I offended you, then I sincerely appologise.
I gotta find something else to do during work hours...
bring. it. on.
@sweet greggo part deux
BING it on?
@Measlesopolis
~ BING-O ~
Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!
@Measlesopolis
The "Hoorays" will disappear when we read the list of missing features.
No Copy & Paste. No Voice-Over-IP. The phone's compass will be broken. Oh, and no apps!
@IT expert No apps, huh? Sure about that?
@IT expert
what i'm mad about missing is youtube, i mean they haven't even mentioned it, i think they're trying to fly under the radar with it being completely missing. Other than that I couldn't be more excited for this phone, it's why i go to engadget everyday. Anyway i could care less about c & p i think i've used it a total of 3 times on my ipod touch and droid, i just don't think c&p is a phone thing
@IT expert
What exactly are you peddling bro. You comments have been negative (61 comments) about MSFT. You must be an ex-employee. Get off the soap box and accept WP7 is refreshing and people will buy it including myself.
@Measlesopolis It'll have flash and HTML5 video support... how is it going to be missing YouTube?
@Playos
flash support at release?
@IT expert if you've been paying ANY attention to these articles, it won't have it at FIRST...it'll be added later, obviously they don't want to include something that they don't have working perfectly. What would you rather, have the phone without C&P or have the phone with C&P in a year? I'll wait for C&P :)
So you have a release date for WinPho7, what now?
Oh, wait, that isn't Apple related...
This sounds pretty neat to be sure.
Its nice to see some WP7 news for a change... cant wait to see more....
@AcE17
I hope to see news on WinPho7 pick up here as all of the new handsets start to get leaked here in the next couple of months.
Okay so I'll wait til October before i spend my money on Android. This looks promising. And I love my Zune HD!
Zune in the go via streaming. Please hurry up microsoft
unlike iPhone you can hold this anyway you wanted!
