Windows Phone 7's October release casually mentioned in Microsoft ad presentation
"I'm gonna ask rock star Kostas... to come on. And Kostas has brought with him Windows Phone 7, which we launch this October." So sayeth Microsoft VP for Marketing Mich Mathews in introducing GM of Live Labs' Kostas Mallios, who was at the Cannes Lions advertising conference to show off the advertising capabilities of the upcoming smartphone platform. Of course, last we heard, the official company line on WP7's release was "holiday 2010," so this would definitely narrow the launch window quite a bit, as well as corroborates earlier Telstra roadmap leaks. Not an official statement, but Mathews would definitely be someone in the know here. Don't expect the folks in Redmond to go ahead and confirm -- they work on their own schedule, thank you very much -- but should someone 'fess up, can we also talk about that $150 Kinect price? Video after the break.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

If anyone is interested. search: Microsoft windows phone 7 event in NYC on youtube. If you look closely, you can see a MSFT rep pass over a HTC Evo look-alike running WP7. My money is ready MSFT. Your move.
@eminisp
HTC HD3?
@GAM3R
Pot calling kettle...

@nickdog670
I sure hope so. The hair stood on my arms when i seen it. I have my fingers crossed.
Zero-Step sharing,,,instantly to Windows Live Sky Drive...fantanstic !
@bufbarnaby That is really awesome! Though I do hope that it's optional. I don't want _every_ photo I take to be posted online.
great-another content deliverer (read ads); just what we need in our lives, another barrage of ads everywhere we go (literally, you get ads now when your at the john in most places). Crap city!!
@iamajim I know! I mean seriously, programmers ought to learn to spend hours and hours developing an app and then giving it out for free without ads! And google! I mean, of course _they_ could live without ads!
Look, ads _need_ to be everywhere if you don't want to pay for everything you use. People need money, and they aren't going to work without it for you.
also dam MSFT is dont great things this year.
chick out this Windows CE 7 boot up time. Its like 3 or 4 secs crazy fast!!

engadget make a topic about this!!!
@pinktacoyummm But is it *i*Windows CE 7?
Heh, just kidding Engadget. :)
@HighestRanked2 Yeah! I mean, just because Windows 7 was the fastest selling operating system ever, or because Windows Phone 7 seems much better than, or at least on par with, the iOS, or because Kinect is a potentially revolutionary product, or the fact that they are increasingly competing better in the cloud, doesn't mean they're doing anything right! I say they're gonna go bust in a few months, what say?
@HighestRanked2 I say you fail at life!
@HighestRanked2 You know what? I'm not gonna bother answering your arguments in detail. Get out of that Microsoft bashing cloud of yours and reread my earlier comment.
Windows phone 7 looks real nice except for the home-screen tiles
I'm looking forward to garbage made by lg and slumping ii with windows!!!! ....not!!!!!!!!!!! iPhone 4 baby
@Allstar650 yea lets see if your iphone 4 can make calls baby!!
Someone must not have given Microsoft the memo that physical keyboards are dying...
@jfrd63 I got no problem with that, I'm not a fan of typing with a touchscreen
So a great idea to get a w7 phone, so you can get to watch more ads!
Dell's been pretty quiet about the Lightning.... :(
Was at a Microsoft event yesterday, got "casual mentions" that WP7 will be out by end october, or latest early november. Date isn't fixed, they're still fighting to sort out a few very major issues.
I also got confirmation that WP7 will be the "consumer" phone OS, while apparently WM6.X will still be in development for max enterprise support. They'll continue to co-exist, pending some massive fight to allow/disallow enterprise support.
WP7 will launched zune when you plug the phone into the computer, so no more tethering.
WP7's idea of customisation is to allow you to change the color of the front page to any of the 16 basic colours you get in win3.1
While WP7's fast and such, my initial feel is that MS is ready to launch something exactly like the iphone 2G.
@GAM3R
Sorry dude, there's no link.
You'll have to take it as it is without reference from me. :)
The greatest push for WP7 will be that of being connected to cloud, with the marketing phrase "1 cloud, 3 screens" => computer, phone, gaming console..
I see alot of push for "stop, then just continue on another platform" concept. i.e. watch movie, pause, and resume on the phone/console/computer. Applicable to music, books, movies, word documents, etc.
IMO no one is gonna care about W7 phones. It's missing alot of features. Especially multitasking, no one wants to go thru another iPhone mess.
Android > Windows Phone 7 > iOS4
Still waiting for that special piece of hardware. I want one of these phones.
Columbus Day (or Invasion Day if you're a native) is a holiday in October, so "technically" they are correct.
@abedinthehouse
STFU!
You hate Steve Jobs?
What an asinine thing to say. You don't even know the man. And this is about a fucking phone you idiot.
A DAMN PHONE!!!! OMFG!!!!
is it me or is this guy operating from the premise that I want to be subjected to a never ending stream of advertisements?
Just don't mess this up Microsoft!
Hope he doesn't take dirty photo's with that phone :P LOL
