iPhone 4's
massive launch hasn't been blemish free, with reports of
spotty displays (which seem to have disappeared) and
antenna woes being rather widely reported. Well -- it looks like it's possible there's another issue too -- this time with the proximity sensor. Now, we're no strangers to spontaneously turning on speakerphone with our faces (though admittedly our cheeks are pretty round), so it's hard to say if this is an iPhone 4-specific issue, but the mounting reports would suggest that it's possible the new handsets sensor is a little bit... over sensitive. Reported issues include accidentally disconnecting calls, throwing the speakerphone switch, and putting people on hold accidentally. What about you? @Thor e Yea???? And you are an idiot. Go on assuming when you don't & couldn't POSSIBLY know ALL the FACTS!!!!! There are MANY phones out there & MANY gadgets etc that are "junk" & this phone is not one of them!!! That is YOUR opinion!!! Do you even OWN one???? If you DO & you can STILL say that then you don't deserve to have it. Sell it to me then. I'll take it!!!! Gladly!!! I am PERFECTLY happy with mine!!!! I think the price is WELL deserved!!!! Considering even the cheapest Mp3 player that ONLY plays music is close to the price I paid. NO ONE even mentions the fact that it's NOT just a phone, it's ALSO an iPod!!!

And YES the iphone IS junk considering all these major problems and the whole iphone series has been lacking in the first place. I can't expect you to really understand considering you were mentally lacking enough to buy the phone in the first place considering the much better options on the market. Just FYI I owned iphomes for 2 years and had to adnit to myself that my loyalties to the phone were just stupid considering how often the phone let me dow, apple let me down and how the phone sucked. You too will evolve one day... Atleast I hope for your sake.
@Thor e Yor are right read my problems at the bottom of the page, I have one Yes I do, I hate the thing , not the phone but at&t, apple 4 hour tech calls which will need in nothing being fixed.
I talked to on apple tech for 3 hours about my problem I had to ask are you still there 10 times, I think he was sleeping or just didn't care.
If you think the sofware patch will fix your problems you are wrong, as the phone has hardware problem too, the patch is just too keep you waiting until the 30 return days are up and you are locked into a contact like me.
As I had a 3gs and on the 27th day traded for the iphone 4, the 3gs is a better working phone. DON'T BE A FOOL RETURN IT NOW FAST!!!! I would my iphone 4 toy juck if they would let me, I could hear them joking and making funny remarks in the background.
It hung up on a call with my dad twice today, put me on mute once. I think I need to take it in.
I either hang up, mute or hold every call over 5 minutes at least once or twice. I used to always rest my 3gs on my shouder all the time with no issues...
I really hope there will be an update fix soon !!!
Tried to facetime again with somebody today. This is getting pretty troublesome.
Yes I am having these problems as well...I thought I was the only one but decided to do a google search...I wish I didn't reserve order the new iPhone, I should have waited and seen all these problems the new iPhone has...it's pathetic, my old iPhone never had a single problem....don't they test these iPhone's before they release? Guess not...this sucks.
I had this problem and it's easily fixed. Go to general, then settings and then hit reset, then hit reset all settings, you wont lose your data or info, it just resets the phone, it only takes a minute. You'll have to reset your wi-fi password and ringtones and wallpaper but it solves the problem right away. I did it last night and been working great, and not related but i haven't dropped one call, i think the phone is amazing, that mute button was my only issue and this fixes it so...there ya go!!!
ok IPHONE 4 is beautiful sexy and amazing but packed with too many glitches for this high class company. the problems with antennas and proximity sensors and even MMS video messaging is ridiculous. Has anyone experienced video yet? ive seen blogs and youtube clips of fellow users. I have 2 iphone 4s plus 4 friends with iphone 4s all with same problem. I call att they blame apple I call apple they blame att. One says iphone needs iphone carrier update then software update.
So much for HD iphone ? the video quality looks like i took a video in the dark w tornado winds swirling around and with a 0 mp camera. My exaggeration is legit

antenna issues, proximity sensor problems ... seems to be too many problems. but is it over hyped? remember a million phones were sold!!

I'm on my THIRD iPhone 4 for this EXACT problem. This is the last apple product I'll ever buy at launch. I can't make a call without accidently hitting mute, hold, dial pad and numbers, facetime or hanging up and calling someone else on accident. I've never been so disappointed in an apple product in my life. I've owned every version iphone as well.
To top it off, the 'genius' at apple store told me this is the last phone they can replace for this issue. I told him it wont matter cause if this doesn't get fixed I'm returning it for good. Third iphone, NO add on apps installed and YES the proximity sensor is fucked.
Way to test your products apple. Hope you have to recall all 1.7 million for how much trouble you've put me through the last week trying to fix this crap ass phone.
There is a pretty nice fix for the reception issue over at Dorkutopia. Its just a Live strong bracelet over the reception band. Dorkutopia.com has a nice article on it.
I have the iphone 4 and found if I don't even hold the phone the G will come and go and signal bars will total leave and come back when ever it wants too strange little phone, I have not seen any yellow in my screen yet but I have something new you should see what my iphone will do please look at http://home.newwavecomm.net/racal/iphone.jpg and also http://home.newwavecomm.net/racal/iphone1.jpg please don't forget the http thing on links, when i get a text message in someway the 3 option tap at the bottom when I think add new contact will end up very small at the top????? it will take a reboot to fit it , I have set the size font set to make it easyer for me to read, I have reset it to new 3 times same problems. at&t and apple help is no good I got the apple extra care plan in a litte box didn't want to open as I could sell it sealed , but today when I talked to the apple tech he told me if I opened the box he would send me a new phone overnite, I gave him the # inside he activated the care plan and told he I had to give him a CC hold for 699.00 to send out a replacement I told him no way I called him a cheat and apple too as now am out 65.00 more now. I have been on the phone one day 4 hours with a at&t top tech and a top apple tech , they say they will get to the bottom?? there is nothing to get to the phone has software problems antenna could have a little but I think a lot has to do with at&t too the antenna were I live is at is 1 1/2 mile away thats strange and to get dropping calls and data drops ? my phone also stopped getting incoming call too that took 4 hours too to fix on the phone. At this point I told them to go to???? you know I getting tried of the bull???? from them. They aways have a something to say about the phone but willn't to not one thing to fix it right. At&t need to upgrade there tower system for this phone and I think they turn the power output up on the first week so it would cover some problem up for the iphone so iphone sells willn't drop. Apple needs to upgrade the operation system to get the bugs out, I told them I getting tried of being a tester for the phone and being charged big $$$ for the information they get from me. Apple if you see this you are a cheat lier and thief as for at&t it all about money as I want out of this contact with them I payed 299.00 for this problem phone, other iphone 4 users post everyplace you can about your problems lets stop them from selling these to other people let others know. Ok, so I'm new to this blog and to read all the postings is taking forever. I'm having problems with people not being able to hear me while I'm on speakerphone. I don't use a bluetooth at all, but I'm on the speakerphone all the time. This is posing a problem. Does anyone have any suggestions at all?

Definitely a problem when holding the phone on the shoulder to talk...this really stinks. I thought I was crazy until the press conference and read the blogs. Now we all need the update software 4.0.2 like "yesterday". We got the 4.0.1 today but come on Apple....work really hard to fix this next issue and be done with it. Proximity Sensor issue is very frustrating. Love the phone but would like to use it without any dropped calls. It is beautiful and sexy but I don't want to use it as a "coffee table decoration". LOL For my coffee table, I will go to Pier One for a candle.
I want my "amazing, beautiful, awesome, sexy iphone 4 to work....PERIOD!

OK....I did the reset for the Proximity Sensor Issue....someone recommended it....
I put phone on the shoulder, called a friend, talked for about 20 seconds and called dropped. Darn it....I thought for a minute the Reset fixed it. Sad Face. :(
Tried it again...
Phone on shoulder, called same friend, talked longer and tried to keep face and chin off the screen...worked but I don't want to have to work so hard and be so careful, gentle for my phone to keep calls from not dropping.
When you reset... you will lose your Wifi, wallpaper and ringtone but that took all but 3 minutes to put back. All your info, songs, contacts will still be there so give it a try. RESET/RESTORE....but be careful which one you pick...gives you a few "restore" options. You have nothing to lose, so try it. We still need a better fix.....HELP APPLE... DO YOUR MAGIC!!!!!
My phone also has issues. I have put people on hold, attempted FaceTime sessions, beeped in their ear with my keypad, and put them on mute. VERY annoying!!
THREE NETWORK + iPhone 4 SPELLS DISASTER!
I've been eagerly waiting for the iPhone 4 to be released, and decided to go with three as they had the cheapest option with most minutes. I originally had been with three, about 7 years ago, and remember having signal problem, but since then they have advertised heavily with improved network.
Soon as i got it, that's when problems started.
DAY 1.... I had fluctuated signal issues, where the signal bar would go up and down without touching the phone, Three advised to get a case it was a known issue, how will that solve the issue I'M NOT TOUCHING THE PHONE!! anyway got one, did not resolve, called them back and offered md half price 1 month line rental, whilst the work was being carried out in one particular area i was having issues with.
They offered me a call back this did not materialize!
DAY 2.... Issues getting 3G signal, particularly indoors, tested at four main areas i travel too between 10 and 100 mile apart. Took handset back to the store they are not interested as i had used the handset, and accepted a discount from three!! HOW THE HELL DO YOU TEST A PRODUCT FOR DEFECTS WITHOUT USING IT!!!
DAY 3.... Rung Back three and agreed to have the handset replaced, agreed to it, but decided to test the SIM in my iPhone 3GS handset, same fluctuating problem, this handset had been on the o2 Network for the last 12 months never such problem, was advised this was a known issue on all iPhone handset... OKAY!!! WHATEVER!!
Rung back, told me to put it in another manufactures handset to which i did, told me to go through network settings to see what signal it captures, WE both agreed IT WAS NOT CAPTURING 3G SIGNAL where i was located Offered 1 MONTH free line rental, i refused this I DID NOT WANT OFFERS and MONEY BACK, I just want i service i was paying good money for.
DAY 4.... I noticed the proxy sensor wasn't working properly, as few times i had hit the mute button with my ear, they agreed to get the Handset replaced, ONLY AFTER COMPLETELY LOSING IT WITH THEM!
The offered me a second call back
DAY 5.... I got a TEMPERATURE ERROR message on phone, message read the phone needs to cool down before i use it again, hard reset did not fix this message, but did clear after 10 minutes... ignored this error as i was going get handset replaced, but still needed to use handset, for a few days. I mentioned of the call back they meant to do, apparently they called yesterday, but could not connect to my phone, DUH... that would be because no signal!
DAY 6, Cold morning, browsed internet for 5 minutes ... TEMPERATURE ERROR!! could not use it for 30 minutes, the phone was not even HOT!!
Called back three, BY NOW I WAS TOTALLY ANGRY WITH THREE, and really KICKED off at them, call disconnected, due to TEMPERATURE ERROR, few seconds cleared and called back again DISCONNECT due to TEMPERATURE ERROR... AAAHHHHHHHH!!!
IMMEDIATELY went back to store and demonstrated the error during a call.
HANDSET RETURNED and Refunded and Contact CANCELLED!!!
This was the worst experienced i have ever had with issues both with the network as well as the handset, this had caused me alot of grief in the last 6 days, all i was doing was repeating myself and nobody wanted to accept responsibility and accept that there was a problem, i had to do the constant chasing, as well as the travelling. i Had spent... must be at least 4 hours calling three with all my problems!
GEE am i glad to get out of the contact, there's reason why their Tariffs so GOOD, it cos their networks so SHIT!
The store kept pointing at their 14 days policy at the point of sale, that they will accept return if i was not happy with it, but when it came to the crunch, bollocks!
I had been on o2 Network and always used the phone for everything and my bill was always £32.50 after discount never went up or down, but with three i had already spent £1.01 outside my allowance in the first few days, when i asked of this, it was due to picture message, isn't that part of the bundle! oh it's NOT, PICTURE EMAIL is!!! what the hell is picture mail, isnt that when you send a picture using email which is part of your data bundle?? very puzzling and not straight forward.
