Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"We need a digital camera that can be switched on and fire off that first shot fast. It's not a commonly tracked statistic on any review site, and nobody seems to have this information for every camera. We were hoping other readers could inform us as to what small digital cameras can fire off their first pics in under a second (ideally under half a second). It needs to be small, but mostly, just really quick in operation. Thanks!"
*sigh*.........
@AcE17
I think we all understand its normal for phones to have this problem. but it still has to have a case to even compare with the Nexus One even tho it has the same issue.
@corylulu The nexus one did have some connection issues but they were nothing like what we are seeing with the iphone4. YOU CANNOT with any other phone 'short out' the antenna depending on the way you hold it. Stop comparing the two devices
@corylulu
I fixed this issue by having Ghost Armor put on my phone, it was $35 installed at the mall. Added protection and a thin coating over the antenna so now I don't need to use a case to fix the reception issue.
@CRMDEV
The Ghost Armor is still a case. In fact it's a case that you paid an additional $35 for to fix something your phone shouldn't have an issue with out of the box.
@Dafrety
It may be a case but it doesn't add to the bulk of the device or hide its beauty... I have it on my Zune HD and love it! =)
@AcE17
I know. I have something similar on my cellphone and soon my iPod Touch as well. The difference is I'm putting the skin on so that I can better protect the device, not so that the device can function properly.
@Dafrety
Well yeah... you do have a point there but the case also serves another very important purpose...
@AcE17 I just spoke with a corporate sales apple rep earlier today. He mentioned that this is going to be fixed with a software update. I dunno about that but he is a pretty credible guy. So anyway, thought I would add my .02 cents.
@CRMDEV
I'm buying a regular bumper-style case. I think anyone who doesn't buy a case for their $200 phone is pretty dumb unless they never drop anything. However, I hear that the issue still happens with some cases.
If I still have this issue with my case, I'm going to be really pissed off.
@AcE17
Right?!?! sorry bro..Apple is still an "upfront and HONEST" company.
This sucks for you guys seriously as a Mac users for years i dont know why they arent addressing this in some form and make customers happy.
@Dafrety
Maybe You've experienced something different .. But I dont know of ANYONE personally that is using an iPhone without a case 2G,3G,3Gs or the 4.. You have to have one to Physically protect Your investment. So I really dont understand the concern.. Put on the case of your Choice and Enjoy a Really Nice Smartphone..
@zangetsu2
i dont understand how Apple will fix this with a software update. I think they will just alter the signal bars.
@nabberuk
You didn't get the post, did you?
@nabberuk
They will just change the definition of the value a bar.
int numberOfBars = SomeCalculation();
numberOfBars += 2;
Kind of like "It goes to 11"
looks loke the iPhone4 turned out to be a real piece of shit.
@AcE17
I remember some talking about this awesome phone with ace engineering and sweet materials and how it totally owns the competition. I wonder what phone were they talking about?
By the way, Android 3.0 coming up. Oh my. Hope you had your day in sunshine, Iphone users.
@AcE17
So in other words... the software fix that Apple is working on will not fix the reception..... just the bars shown on the display..... *******FAIL*******
EVO for the WIN!
@huzzlehoff hahahah right because we know Android 3.0 is going to make all those shitty Apps in the marketplace that much better.
@corylulu
In have an iPhone 4, andnindont have signal lost like everyone claims
well, Its not a bad looking mp3 player
@AcE17
These editors just keep trying to say "Its not so bad" blah blah, its terrible!! Quit fooling yourself, you wasted your money and its your fault
@nabberuk yeah, apple is just going to make the five bar reading to need less of a signal strength so that it appears people have 5 bars all the time, therefore continuing down the path that there isn't a problem :/
@djt The only way Apple can fix this with a software update is to move the reception/bar scale down, so that when you have a weak signal the IPhone shows 5 bars.
A car with a broken thermostat can still overheat.
Best,
K
@jsbaugh
You sure got some sense of self irony there :oD
@WKCptton Oh yeah, I get what you are saying. Thats why I was really surprised to hear him say that. I didn't think it would be possible to fix a shorted circuit with a software update. And I still don't really think they can fix this with a software update.
I was just relaying the information told to me about it earlier today who works for Apple and a quite a few levels above what you would find in an Apple store.

@AcE17
Good at it the positive way:
iOS defies the laws of Physics!
Serious, they need to test this against AT&T's 850 band vs. 1800 band. I BET there's a difference!
@zangetsu2 $200 phone SUBSIDIZED. Try $700 phone :)
@huzzlehoff and that mind set will continue to plague android.
Its been linux year for how many years?
Android is the same shit. Every year "IT WILL TAKE OVER" its not going to happen. You unix fanoboys have your mobile linux now to wish every year it will take over.
Pssssssssssttttttttt old news.
@FrankDTank
Hate to break it to you, but it already has. There was a good article about Android, I suggest you to read it.
http://mobile-review.com/articles/2010/birulki-73-en.shtml
@dswatson83
why don't you read the source before making idiotic statements ..
FTA
". Inside a case, the iPhone 4 performs slightly better than the Nexus One. "
@ThinkpaxX200s
I don't have a case for it. Sure it got few scratches and has survived 20+ falls without a cracked screen, and I mean the kind of drops that always make my friends and family gape in awe thinking "there goes his iPhone 3g". It has lasted for a long time and I can bet you that I can go without a case for another year if I don't want to upgrade!
@AcE17
All phone's signal strength measurements are done the same way and have no problems.
On the "signal to noise ratio" statement, that is complete BS.
@YourHoldingItWrong
Naw, this code is simpler and requires less QA ;)
while(True){ signal.bars = 5; }
@AcE17
This pretty much sums the whole thing up:
http://thelikepage.com/334/iPhone_4s_new_feature/
But don't worry iPhone still got a strong following lol:

@nabberuk
*sigh* as we all know that this is a PHYSICAL, hardware problem, they are still trying to LIE and DECEIVE their "customers", and potentials too. Well, the job will be getting me the white one, and case.. so no money loss or signal loss for me.
But its still #TeamDroidFTW ...way more openness, way more customizations, and WAY LESS lies and deceit :)
@AcE17
I feel the same way. I bought a black bumper case for the iPhone 4 and I must say Apple did an exquisite job with the design. The flat black edges sandwiching a glossy black center stripe and the silver volume button cover accents as well as the silver on/off top switch cover just shout class. You press those buttons and it feels like there is no cover, so form is as good as function.
I dropped by a Best Buy and though they had some plasticky cases nothing held a candle to the black bumper. I held the phone with the left hand as well as the right and it held all five bars, even while driving down the street toward home. As far as I'm concerned there is no antenna problem if you plan to buy a case anyway, and personally, as with my 3gs, I would never remove the case on my iPhone anyway except to clean it. Sure it's unfair; I totally agree. But I must say these phones would have looked just as stunning if they came with the black bumper on it and Apple charged $30 more for the total iPhone package. I doubt if there would be as many complaints about the iPhone 4's antenna reception and Jobs could have saved himself a lot of disgruntled customers. Seriously IMO he could have jacked the price of the phone up $30, bumper included, and a lot of people would have much more easily let the antenna issue go. Just my opinion.
@ThinkpaxX200s
Ive had an iphone 3gs since launch last year without a case and its still in great condition.
@benchase7
And that's being very generous.
@benchase7 mine is fine.. don't know what your talking about.. even with this minor issue, this is a beautiful device and i'm satisfied.
@AcE17 The justifications made in Apple's honor are mind boggling.
"'this iPhone gets the best cellular reception yet, even though measured signal is lower than the 3GS.' However, there's no getting around the fact that we've definitely dropped a couple calls with the iPhone 4"
In other words...
"'this Ferrari is the fastest Ferrari yet, even though the radiator has a hard time keeping the car running cool.' However, there's no getting around the fact that the radiator has overheated when driving normally."
Does that sound completely stupid to anyone else?
"we've definitely dropped a couple calls with the iPhone 4 by holding it the wrong way"
Lol. So now you guys are on board for the right way-wrong way to hold a phone "strategy"?
@dswatson83
I remember a friend had a Verizon phone with a sticker on the back that told you "holding the phone here will reduce the reception." This sticker was in the told back of the phone. Granted not where you would hold the phone naturally, but still Verizon noticed a "shorted" signal when held improperly. I have noticed the visual drop in signal strength, but I can say I drop way, way, way fewer calls then I did with the 3GS.
@Urrl I myself have an iPhone 4 and couldn't of said it better myself. I have no dropped calls or problems with the bumper on
@djt
"So anyway, thought I would add my .02 cents."
haha, you're adding your 2/100 of a cent?
@benchase7
Nah it's still good. It's engadgets best reviewed smartphone
@AcE17
I'm trying to figure out why they down ranked you
@YourHoldingItWrong They will basically say numberOfBars = Fullbars.jpg
@AcE17 Who tested the phone and how the hell did they overlook such an obvious problem. Do you think this is the real reason the stage demo failed when steve couldn't get a wifi signal, cos some one didn't say Steve your holding it wrong.
