Did Nokia just confirm a MeeGo tablet?
We've heard the rumors, hell, we've even seen Intel reference designs (pictured) running the MeeGo OS. But now we seem to have confirmation that a proper MeeGo tablet built by Nokia is on the way. Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia's newly crowned chief of Mobile Solutions, said the following in an interview captured by the Wall Street Journal:
Remember, Nokia already makes a netbook and the smartphone qualifier would seem to remove any speculation that Anssi is referring to its Internet Tablet class of Maemo devices. So maybe, just maybe that rumored 7- or 9-inch Nokia tablet is real. Did we say maybe?Due to the spread of cloud computing and new advances in electronics and network technology, mobile devices will increasingly move beyond smartphones to include other computer-like gadgets such as tablets, and the MeeGo platform will be an important asset for Nokia.

MeeGo looks like a well polished, good looking tablet/phone OS. I hope Nokia combines it with some great hardware to compliment all of that :)
@Mike Vick "The only thing that matters is cost go Nokia!"
I would have to experience that OS before I said "the only thing that matters is cost."
No price is good if you don't like using it.
Competing Apple with Symbian and Meego for computer like devices - no Meego phones then ? Nokia is very messed up.
@BFish
MeeGo does phones, tablets,netbooks and other devices

@BFish
N9 is the 1st MeeGo phone to be launched this year. How is it confusing?
Unlike Android, iOS and WebOS, MeeGo is a full featured OS for a number of device families.
@BFish
... God if you know so little why do you feel the urge to write crap ?
MeeGo is for high end Smartphones tablet and netbooks.
It's Linux based and it runs on both ARM and X86 I mean it could hardly be more scalable !
The problem here, is you have 3 platforms - iP[*], Android, and now MeeGo. The first two already have market and developer share... Meego/Nokia needs to come around from behind.
In order to do this, they need court developers by getting Qt to work on Android, so that writing a MeeGo app can be re-leveraged on Android. (This exists in the lab, but no word on a release...) Then Nokia will have a shot at regaining market share.
@Scorp1us well, if MeeGo will run existing Linux applications then I do not see any problem.
I'm just going to wait for the HTC Tablet ^^)
@TP for my Bunghole It's not like Nokia hasn't been making tablets for years BEFORE Apple. Ever heard of the Nokia 770, N800 and N810?
@TP for my Bunghole
Yep, and mee go FAR away from this one.
@TP for my Bunghole maybe this tablet isn't what everyone considers to be a tablet...the nokia n900 was called a tablet by nokia...
@TP for my Bunghole : No, everyone says they are going to release a tablet and they want you to hold off buying another company's product.
I've been waiting patiently but no company has been able to release a viable product that has good battery life and performance as yet (except the fruit people). Although that 1Ghz Samsung Hummingbird gives me hope. :)
I WANT ONE!!
@TP for my Bunghole Nokia's tablet is bound to be a craptastic piece of plastic!
I hope Asus is making one 2 :P
Meego can be Nokia's savior. All they have to do is push this out through advertisements and any other way they can.
Why must the companies always copy Cupertino?
Cant they come up with something new and innovative? Nokia=Fail
I just wish Lenovo could get in there and work with Nokia/Intel, make their U1, and put MeeGo on it.
That would be a cool device.
Or nokia could pick up on their Idea.
Cause, however cool MeeGo is, and no matter how many linux programs will be ported. Windows 7 still has some strong points.
I'll believe it when it has a price tag on a shelf. Until then it's just another vaporware tablet.
@radarskiy
Please com on!
Nokia will most likely at some time make a tablet.. and that is what the article say might be confirmed. That is not a tablet by specifik specifickations, or anything.
So we can be pretty sure there will be one, but for how long we have to wait, we nothing about.
MeeGo seems like a great netbook/tablet OS, I'm excited to see what Nokia comes up with.
