O, to see what
Omio sees. The outlet has obtained what it claims to be "a
huge UK mobile phone release schedule for the rest of the year... [from] all the manufacturers" (emphasis its own). So, from where would such an all-encompassing roadmap hail? We don't know, nor can we corroborate any of this, but the details are numerous so let's go through it -- albeit with cautious optimism and a few grains of salt. The biggest phone we can see of this baker's dozen of a lineup is the HTC Gold (
sound familiar?), due in November and loaded with Microsoft's mobile OS newcomer
Windows Phone 7. Unfortunately, that's all the information provided, but it's certainly enough to entice us. Also in November, we've got Samsung i8700 and
Nokia E7 -- the latter being possibly a
N8-esque QWERTY slider with AMOLED display and
Symbian^3, and the former being a mystery (although
Omio takes a gander that its aquatic Greek mythology might suggest a
Bada-powered existence).
Going up the list Memento style, October purportedly brings across the pond-ers
HTC Vision, the virtually unknown HTC Ace, Nokia N8, and Sony Ericsson's
Xperia X8 and
Yendo. September's a bit of a yawner --
SE Hazel and a Nokia X2 candybar -- as is August with the X6 8GB and
BlackBerry Curve 9300. And July? Nokia E5-00, Sony Ericsson W20, and Samsung i5500. As is usually the case, the more you can wait, the better your options. Now, let's see if this supposed roadmap stays on course.
@Kleptomaniac That has not been my experience at all. When I call customer service regarding my phone(s) (I had a G1 just to see if I liked android... wasn't the OS for me) they just asked me for the iMEI number to associate with my phone, without any other questions asked about what I'm doing. They are very vocal about how proud they are that they allow customers to use unlocked phones on their network, and that's the reason I can't quit them. It's a winning formula for me.
@BrookLynnsFinest Well, it was really Microsoft's fault that Verizon treated the Kin like it did, and Microsoft should know that.
Not for nothing but for all the people that complained about Palm announcing webOS 6 months before releasing the Palm Pre, Microsoft has basically bested Palm in this department. The anticipation for Windows Mobile 7 has died, IMO and the recent killing of Kin support doesn't give assurance to Microsoft's long-term security in the mobile market
@chiliu78
You're forgetting the marketing aspect of things. Given the right ad campaign webOS could have succeeded and changed things a lot...
But of course we all know how that turned out. Horribly weird commercials. Sprint itself wasn't doing that much advertising for the device or the OS itself. And of course the lack of development compared to android and iPhone wasn't helping. It seems like apps were at a trickle in webOS land.
If MS plays it right there's no reason why WP7 can't be a marginal success. Key word being IF.
One would HOPE that MS has been using all this time to truly make the UI great and encourage a lot of app development so that when it launches it won't be a ghost town on The Windows Marketplace (isn't that what they're planning on calling their app store?).
@BrookLynnsFinest Yeah, they're getting in developers to make apps. The tools used to create them (Expression, Silverlight, VS, and basic C++, compatibility with other dev tools as well) are pretty neat.
I've also been lurking YouTube. Check out these app demos created for WP7

@N900
Thanks for the link...watching them now.
@chiliu78
I think the anticipation for WP7 has been "dormant", rather than "died". At the sheer mention of it, people get curious again and add in visuals and people are excited.
Plus, I think if Microsoft can pull of an great ad campaign, they'll totally be ready for WP7 launch.
@chiliu78
I'm definitely with you on that notion. I was all gung-ho about webOS at first and when it finally arrived the mojo was all gone and we all know the rest of the story.
MS is doing the same thing and Android is stealing all the attention left and right and all we keep hearing of WP7 is end of year... If the Galaxy S is as good on paper when it launches then that's another strike. Me, i've been holding out, still trudging along on a Treo Pro but i'm getting restless and 6 more months i don't think i can do.
@BrookLynnsFinest Don't know if you've seen how fast it is now, but here's a link showing the greatest pre-alpha software I've laid eyes on.

@merovingian The hype hasn't really died down. Most people that I know haven't even heard of it yet. All they have to do is launch a great ad campaign and the sales will come.
yea.. that worked for Kin didn't it
seriously.. who's gonna buy this thing?
nobody I know that's for sure
@obobo
Get a life, fanboy.
@obobo What exactly are you talking about? The Kin not only was a feature phone with no apps, but it also had a weak and boring ad campaign. I'm pretty sure MS knew it was gonna be rough when they lost the data deal with Verizon. You're predicting the fall of a beautiful smartphone OS with Xbox Live, Microsoft Office, and great third party developers? You sir, must be delusional.
@PAP3RCLIPS The ads for the Kin were not weak or boring but highly unusual and freaky. Every time I saw one, I would say "Why in the world would a girl drive 3000 miles across the country to meet a complete stranger?" or "Why is this girl completely stalking all of her ex's?". They were completely laughable
@Chi I would call an ad that didn't work a weak ad. Strong ads tend to bring consumers in whereas weak ones don't.
THE WAIT IS KILLING ME. WTF NOV? I hate LG, but i may get an LG for winpho7. What about that Dell phone?? whens that coming out?
@(Unverified)
The LG Panther looks awesome man!

Everything is better than the data stealing OS that is Android. Can’t think of a reason fanboiis fell for it.
Hmm, HTC Gold sound very "elemental". I'd rather see HTC "AU" or even better, how about HD3, how's that HTC?
Presumably somewhere in there is a European EVO equivalent?
HTC always seem to have some weird game of transatlantic smartphone pong going on.
MIcrosoft would do well to shake things up with their first phone releases. If they just offer the phones like everyone else is, as simply another choice, the majority of people are likely to go "Huh" and go back to tweeting on their Android or iPhone.
Now if they release each phone without a data requirement to get contract pricing, that would help them capture some market quickly. They should focus on capturing people who haven't made the smartphone jump yet, as everyone already has an Evo, Droid Incredible, or iPhone 4 contract.
@4sparta I think that when wp7 comes the focus is going to be on the where as the focus of the iphone & android is on software. There are fun times coming !

@obobo
Most stupid comment I've ever heard.
Ugliest phone OS I've ever seen
@obobo
Most annoying troll I've ever seen.
@obobo Both you and the author of that article are ignorant. If you really think it's too late to make a name for yourself in the smartphone market you must be very dense. As Verizon has shown with the droid ads, all you need is great marketing to break through.
Ugliest phone OS? Are you crazy? This is the most beautiful UI I have ever seen on a phone. They combine sleek minimalism, with great typography throughout the entire interface. This is a very well planned release for MS and I for one will invest in a Windows Phone next year.
i hope the os will end the lame ass ios shit!!!
If it ain't adamantium or unobtanium it'll be failium!
and in Pandora HTC Unobtanium
I'll tell ya, I've been a WinMo user since my HTC Harrier back in '04. Six years, and I'm honestly not even considering WP7 for my next device this fall/winter. Not until WP7 proves itself with great hardware, UI, dev community, apps, OS updating, etc. I'll give it a few years, but I might go back. Only time will tell.
Harrier --> Apache --> Titan --> Rhodium_W --> ???
@ckeegan See ya when you get back!
I can't contain my excitement for WM7. I've been watching videos, reading reviews, and articles on this phone. I have to say MS seems to be getting things right with this Phone and I'll be getting one this Fall for SURE!!
I can confirm the authenticity of the leak as we received it too at PowerupMobile.com. It was sent out via an affiliate network on behalf of one of the retailers in our price comparison system: http://www.powerupmobile.com/compare.htm
Windows Phone 7 will be horrible, half baked wannabe iOS will just show Microsoft how out of touch they are with their consumers. I still cant believe how long it took them to decide, yes he have to take our head out of our butts and make an OS like iOS, lets just use the Zune's styling. Just to get the style in, they took out backward compatibility, the real hardcore Windows Phone consumers. MS will again fail to live upto the hype just like they have failed with:
1. XboX360 (yes amazing sales, but check out the product quality and performance, both horrible compared to Sony and not to mention most of the consoles are modded to play priated games)
2. Windows Vista (We remember that old chestnut)
3. KIN (Youthful FAIL)
4. Kinetic (Aimed at the below 10 crowd, rofl)
...
And the list goes on.
@munakib
Hey.....I like the Zune styling. :)
@munakib They failed with xbox?
You fail at life.
@munakib
1. I'm sorry, my one-tracked friend, but in this marketing world, sales are probably the only thing that matter. Obviously, it sells because people want it.
2. Not sure if you've been around lately, but a little OS named Windows 7 came out and ironed out quite a few of Vista's problems.
3. Agree with you one that one, but that was only 'cos it wasn't running Windows Phone 7 (just a joke)
4. I don't like Kinect* either, but it is what it is, and it's aimed at whoever it's aimed at, but you can't really criticize it until you've used it or at least until its released and you can see its succes/failure.
I am a proud iFanboy. Yes... whatever you haters. Having said that... I sincerely hope that WP7 succeeds. Those who have had the taste of iPhone (or Jobs cool-aid, depending on your perspective) will still keep drinking it. WP7 will steal existing and potential Android fans. It will be iPhone vs rest of the world. And it will be awesome. Can't wait.
Windows Phone has flopped too many times. Most recently, Kin who died after a few weeks. IPhone and Android are far far ahead ...
@Sultansulan
And Symbian and Black Berry are far far ahead of iOS/Android globally. What is your point? Right now is the time to come to market with a mobile OS. The consumers will decide who survives. Why should a companies just bow down and conceded the market to iOS/Android when they don't even have dominant market share yet.
Market share leads aren't safe in consumer electronics. If Nintendo had given up after being in last place for two console generations they wouldn't have produced the Wii and reclaimed the number one spot.
I'm for freedom, and love open source ...
I hope Microsoft doesn't put the antenna on the outside.
I hope this is a slicker hd2 type device with a higher screen res I'm bored with ios and will be looking elsewere for a new phone com April
I'm waiting for the phone called the HTC-'Win"
Boo! I was hoping for Details on the HTC_Gold. :p Glad to hear November though. Better start saving money.
Heck, I've been an Apple fanboy since 1984 and I'm still looking forward to the W7 phone. Anything more durable than the glass-attack iPhone-4 would be welcomed.
