iPhone 4 gets outfitted with vintage SLR lens

Sure, the iPhone 4 may have a pretty great camera as far as phones go, but there's always room for improvement -- right? Continuing the great tradition of iPhones awkwardly outfitted with camera lenses, one intrepid individual has now come up with a contraption that will let you "attach" a full-size SLR lens to your iPhone 4. While complete details are a bit light, Technabob notes that the camera mount at the bottom of the rig is a Manfrotto pocket tripod -- so you at least have a place to start for building your own.

It looks to me like a pocket tripod, with a 'big ben' on it (basically a clamp for holding scaffolding on top of a stand for use in photography) that is holding an adapter ring for the lens. The only part I can't work out is how he's managed to make the distance between the iPhones front lens element and the lenses rear element and keep it accurate so that the focal distance remains correct. Possibly a custom mount for the iPhone with a way of adjusting the distance between the two.

I really don't get these news stories. They mod a phone and you post a story about it? This isn't even a practical one where you can just drop it into your pocket. I have an iPhone 3G and I really don't plan on upgrading to the iPhone 4 because it wasn't that impressive to me. To be honest I held on to my Sprint "Katana" for a year after my contract ended because I was waiting on Sprint to come out with that phone that would make me want something more then an iPhone. It didn't happen and that is pretty much the same situation I am in now. The HTC Evo didn't impress me enough to jump back to Sprint and I am pretty frustrated right now. Maybe something next year will make me upgrade...
