Stieg Larsson becomes the first author to sell a million Kindle e-books
Given the lovingly detailed descriptions of early-2000s computers and technology the late Stieg Larsson peppered into The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, we're pretty sure he'd love to know that he's just become the first author to sell over a million Amazon Kindle e-books -- and we can only imagine what kind of trouble Larsson's Lisbeth Salander would have gotten into with a Droid X or an iPad. Considering the dominance of Amazon's platform and company's recent announcement that Kindle titles are now outselling hardcovers we'd guess that also makes him the first author to sell a million e-books period, which is fairly notable -- and with the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, we'd guess these numbers aren't going to slow down any time soon. Too bad we don't know the breakdown of where these million books went -- we'd love to know if Kindle devices are as popular as the Kindle apps on various other platforms.

Good for him. Well done well done.
Isn't this guy dead?
@MoonWalkerCTE
Yes. Shame, really.
@coolbreeze Thank god. His books really are quite bad. A hacker who owns an iMac?...uhuh...
"we'd love to know if Kindle devices are as popular as the Kindle apps on various other platforms."
Translation: "we'd love to say, in this non-related apple post, that the ipad was the device which was used to purchase most of this author books"
The black Kindle looks good here.
@Son Goku
Its even better when you own one. Highly recommended.
"upcoming Hollywood adaption"? Dude... it's out already. I sell enough of them.
@Tahu826 - The upcoming Hollywood adaptation is not to be confused with the Swedish movies made and released in 2009. I've read all three books and seen all three movies. The first two movies were quite good, but the third was ... suboptimal. Way too many changes, and a rather ham-handed attempt compared to the first two. David Fincher is the Hollywood guy making the new (English-language) versions. Don't despair, though - this is the guy who made Fight Club and Se7en.
@Tahu826
Hollywood is remaking a U.S. version.
Stupid, if ya ask me. The original rocked!
@Ironworker808
What are you talking about?
The original came from Sweden.
As far as the remake goes ... I think David Fincher will do it justice. If it were some hack director, then I'd be more worried.
@Ironworker808 The first movie was very good, as was the second, though neither was anywhere near as good as the books. The third movie, however, has some serious problems. I'm hoping David Fincher will remain more faithful to the books.
@Tahu826
So, what's the reason of making a Hollywood version of this triology...haven't heard of subtitles ?
@Renal That way American studios can cash in on a bastardized watered down version and ride the wave of recent popularity.
The only saving grace is that Fincher has some vision
@Meekermoloko
Yes, I know the original came from Sweden. Maybe I should have said that Hollywood is making an English version?
@Tumbleweed & Meekermoloko
I didn't know that David Fincher was the director. Very well....I won't completely write the movie off sight unseen. ;)
I always see young hipsters on the subway reading this (and the sequel).
@Alex I see everybody (as in all generations and types) reading the series on the Tube.
@Alex
Hipsters! Oh my God... Don't you mean witches.
Could be worse.
Could be Twilight.
@nTrophy I'm going to assume that you haven't read either of them. Neither have I, but i'm not making comments like that.
@d0mth0ma5
Well, I flicked through the Twilight books in the store -- dime novels at their best.
And i've seen all 3 movies (yeah, I'm a masochist) so I got some idea.
As for the "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", i've only seen the original movie. It was pretty decent. Therefore my statement stands ;)
@d0mth0ma5
I've seen The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie from Sweden.
I've seen the first Twilight movie too for some reason.
TGWTDT movie is far, far greater than the Twilight movie. I'm sure the books would have the same effect on me if I read more books.
Hence ... Dragons > Vampires.
@Meekermoloko I wasn't saying Twilight was better than TGWTDT.
@d0mth0ma5
I know ... I was just making a comment on the films. I was writing it during the 2nd comment you made, so I didn't see that until after I posted.
I do know that books tend to be bastardized by movies sometimes. It's hard to condense a 600 page book down to a 2 and a half hour movie. So, both series of books are probably much better than the movies.
@Meekermoloko Twilight actually isn't. The book series is not open to guys reading it (unless you are gay) as Edward is written as this perfect manifestation of man who is supposed to give the reader an orgasm anytime you read a passage with him in it. It gets old really fast. I prefer the movies to the books because at least I don't have to read Stephanie Meyer's borderline adult romance novel with crap writing.
Oh my freaking god. That piece of crap??
I'm glad that old commie bastard is dead anyway.
@USSLiberty. You may dispense with the profanities
@Lord Vader
"Profanities"?
And yes, Stieg Larsson was an huge communist (Trotskyist more exactly). He even went to Ethiopia with money and weapons to help the marxist rebels there (the Eritrean People's Liberation Front). The same guys who later established the current dictatorship of Eritrea.
Larsson also dedicated his life to destroying other peoples life here in Sweden by following and back-talking every dissident he could find, through his job in newspapers.
So I'm glad he's dead. He was a bad man.
And not a good writer either, as far as I'm concerned.
The black Kindle looks sweet, but you could also pay $7-$10 and pick up the paperback. Just sayin'...
@Johnny Tremaine
You could also forgo a computer and use pen and paper. Just sayin.
I hope that's not Nilay's hand in the photo.
He's been dead for six years. But I'm "pretty sure he'd love to know that he's just become the first author to sell over a million...."
I would think someone would have hit that long ago if the kindle editions were selling more than hard covers, maybe amazon isn't selling as many books as it once did.
OMG I have been wanting to see the movie, and hell I'll read the book, OMG a black Kindle! I don't even read, but I want this now!
I have yet to read these books. I always saw them as something for women/tweens and them only. Am I mistaken?
