We've already gathered that Verizon, Moto, and HTC all seem to be pretty well
committed to bumping most of their Droid models to
Froyo (as well they should), but things are starting to get real --
really real. First off, we've been fed a shot of a tipster's
Droid X that has apparently already been blessed with 2.2 over the air; the baseband version is a tick older than the one in a shot leaked over on
My Droid Life, but it's anyone's guess how Motorola is staging this and what the final gold binary really contains. We've also seen a 2.2 ROM for the
Droid Incredible leak recently (
and the Droid before that), so uncorroborated rumors we're seeing that three of the four retail Droids will be getting 2.2 by the 15th of next month aren't necessarily crazy. Remember: think positive thoughts.
[Thanks, Shane]
Come on Engadget, this is just sad. This is completely fake. Look at the version numbers for everything. They are exactly the same as the .604 update (sans the 2.2). Now the picture is probably real, but it's just someone who changed the "About Phone" with their root access. No one at Engadget could catch this?
Obvious fake I think, the second 2 in 2.2 is photoshopped in. It is shaped differently.
And @TheHoldSteady, lots of women have this phone. It is not too big to hold comfortably even in our smaller hands, and we have purses to carry it in, so it may even be better for women than men ;-)
I can't wait to see some benchmarks on this big ol' bitch!
I am about to move to apple. I m sick of the android platform being publicly announced "it's coming" "it's coming" yet they still do not have the correct expectations for their customers. Set a goal on the release of the product and set the expectation date. Stop publicly announcing releases and deliver 4 months late.
@matt172001
I don't get why is worst to heard a "its coming" instead of a "never ever will support it".
Has any1 seen the Evo sporting 2.2?
I want to see froyo on all devices. It's so much faster then eclair. I personally running a froyoEris right now, and I'm already in love.
android os updates are like a box of tax refund checks, you never know WHEN you gonna get it.
If it comes out on Droid X (which was supposed to be august) and not on the orginial Droid (which should already be out, its late july and almost august now) I'm going to be pissed.
My original Droid runs vanilla Android, why won't Motorola just release 2.2 for me? No need to worry about motoblur or anything like that. If it will just work, just give me 2.2!
Now that's a fast update! Other manufacturers should really learn from Motorola.
Why couldn't the droid 2 have a front facing cam? then it would be my next phone for sure!
Battery life is really important for me with this update. Not that it is horrible but I'd like to go a full day with my normal use without fear of needing a recharge
Nice and fake.... I just got the 1.13.604 update on the Droid X, Firmware version lists 2.1-update1
gosh I can't wait to find out how fast its gonna fly with my droid x
Still don't have it
