Well, well -- what have we here? We already knew that
Microsoft was planning to ship a
4GB Xbox 360 bundle that included
Kinect, and now it seems as if the Big M will also package its forthcoming motion sensor with the
250GB 'box. Based on the packaging of a 4GB bundle over in Australia, it definitely looks as if consumers will have a more capacious option if buying an Xbox 360 for the first time with Kinect, but we're all waiting with bated breath to hear the official confirmation (or denial, but mostly just confirmation) from Ballmer's crew. Anytime now, folks....
I think they'll sell for $399. Kind of like the Halo Reach Edition.
@Joseph9307
4 GB isnt enough though, you will still need to the $100 for the almost mandatory hardrive.
@Scrubs
I meant that the 250GB/Kinect bundle would sell for $399.
I thought I read in a previous article that the 4GB/Kinect bundle would be $299, so yeah.
:/
@Scrubs
4GB is more than enough for most people. Unless you're downloading tons of DLC the internal memory is actually very decent now. You can use flash drives now to expand the space too.
@Dafrety
4GB is nowhere near enough. Thats not even enough to install one game. I install the games I play most because the drive(even in the new xbox) is way too loud. For those that just save games and only have a few arcade games, 4GB is plenty. I would rather get the 4GB version and upgrade with a 250GB hardrive when available because that gloss finish is not hot.
@frodecatur
well i guess if you dont buy many games or are a casual gamer the space wouldnt matter that much, but yeah totally agree the matte looks far superior
@frodecatur
I guarantee you most people don't even know an "Install Game to Hard Drive" feature even exists. Or why they would want to use it.
@Raffi256
Very true. Just told a friend of mine how to do it. Another GOOD reason to install games on your harddrive is if you have kids like me and they like to toss your xbox across the room while the disc is in and gets scratched. The game will still play as long as the game is installed on your harddrive. I have a very badly scratched copy of NBA live 10 and it plays perfectly fine installed.
@frodecatur
Man, you have to put your kids in place!!!
xD
@frodecatur
You need to tell them kids to stop messing around with the Xbox, lol. I knew it existed but never used it until recently. But I'm pretty sure no one else in my family know it exists and my nephews are hardcore gamers.
@frodecatur
I've never even considered installing games to the hdd. Is it really much quieter?
Good, it would be bloody stupid to only sell the lower cost bundle.
@d0mth0ma5
Kinnect 4gb is a trap!.
YES!
I'm asking this because I honestly do not know (I have never owned a 360 or a PS3). Why do people want such big hard drives with their 360s and PS3s? 250GB seems really unnecessary...I have a 320 GB external hard drive for my latop and the only reason it's almost full is because a friend gave me a ton of movies. Besides that, I don't understand why a person needs that big of a hard drive for their video game system.
@Eric K
DLC, saved games, music, etc. I dont see the need for 250 gb though... 120gb suits me just nicely.
@Scrubs
Thanks for the response. I understand it better now. I do agree with you that 250 GB is a lot though. I guess people will have no way to complain there is not enough storage now.
@Eric K
They want bigger hard drives because on the 360 you tend to INSTALL your games on the hard drive so its quieter when it plays and it loads faster. Each game can range from 4-8GB each. That adds up.
You also tend to download a whole mess of game demos and never forget to delete the ones you dont like...I know because I have about 50+GB of demos on my HDD. Then there are game add ons that range from 200MB-1GB or so. Finally there is any music you may put in it and any videos you may download form Zune to watch. All these things add up and before you know it your running low on space. 250GB is pretty ideal, 120Gb works for many people though.
As for the PS3, not sure I dont have one lol.
@(Unverified)
Makes sense. I forgot people download game demos all the time and that you can plug your Zune into the 360 to put music and movies on it.
Thanks for the reply.
@Eric K
Since every one in the world is not as privileged as you, they may use there xbox as a media center. Thus storing movies, music, pics, games, and god knows what else. So if these are truly suppose to be media centers as they claim, Hard drives should be a whole lot bigger for those that need it.
frodecatur, no need to attack him dude. I don't really see the need for having more than 5 demos at once on my Xbox, but things like Game Installs, Downloadable Content, Live Arcade Games and HD Trailers take up a whole load of space on my 60GB HDD, which is why i'm upgrading to a 250GB at the end of the month.
Moral of the story is, if you plan to go online [with Gold] on your Xbox, get the 250. For game saves and updates, get the cheaper bundle.
@BlackedOut
thanks for somewhat having my back. I was ignorant and for some reason frodecatur decides that I am spoiled or something. I was just asking a question because I didn't know. I have friends who have PS3s and 360s but I have a Wii and never needed to buy an external hard drive for it. But now I understand everything. Maybe I will have to do research before asking a question because apparently if you are ignorant and admit it, you still get bashed.
@Scrubs
As the number of 120 GB HDDs thin out (how many of them can there be left with all of the technology moving to 2+ Terabyte drives now) they HDD size will increase because it will make it cheaper to manufacture them.
10 years from now a 120 GB HDD will be insanely expensive to make because no one will want to make it.
Where is the "S" from? Is that the official name?
@bob1000 It's because it's the "slim" version
@JohnnyRaine However, that's not the case for the iPhone 3GS. :P
@bob1000 It says Xbox 360 S on the HDD.
@bob1000
imagine all the soccer moms that'll be confused by the numbers of
250gb xbox 360 kinect 4gb
Brilliant, I think that matte consoles look better anyway!
@JohnnyRaine
Pretty much
Stupid Gloss.
I want the Halo Reach Edition to come with a Kinect Bundle!!!
Btw Notice how the 250gb Is Gloss and the 4gb is Matte...
lol
Nice idea, but the games coming out a full month before the first Kinect units will be sold.
@BlackedOut
Thats why they have it for preorder like everything else?
Its not like people are buying that console for the copy of Halo Reach, they are buying for the custom graphics. If they are having preorders for the Kinect already, they can easily have preorders for that bundle and have it ship out the day Kinect is released.
Ohh yum yum yum yum!!!!!!!!!
can you add your own hard drive to the 4gb model?
@ChairmanMeow new Microsoft hard drives have a proprietary connector
@ChairmanMeow
Yes, it still has the bay for the HDD. You still have to have the HDD in Microsoft's proprietary case though, and they haven't released any information about the stand alone model yet. If you want the HDD and the new console your best bet would to buy the already existing model.
That might be the one I'll pick up. Hopefully Dell has them for sale shortly after they show up.
Everyone just BUY A PS3 nuff said
It's certainly a lot cheaper in the long term.
But if you want my advice go with the box. The 250GB one.
@TylerBowman
I doubt anyone here is deciding between the two. This is Engadget, you've probably had one or the other for years even.
Not going to help Micorosoft much its exclusive line up is weak compared with Sony and couple that with Kinect price tag. This winter will belong to PS3.
@macandme
Exactly right
@macandme Been hearing this since 2007...
i wish the 250 gig would be that matte finish like this 4 gig model...
Silly Microsoft. Memory IS ram!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiRxkFWb_3o
Is this really that big of news? I haven't really paid attention to the new 360 bundles, but I was guessing that they would bundle the 250Gb 360 with Kinect. Even the years olds on XBox live could call that one.
Microsoft's XBOX 360 slim only has 4GB?!?! And you people "like" these things?!?! wtf is wrong with you people! Microsoft consistently screws everyone...
@FlyersPh9
No, it's just the basic model starts off with a 4GB HDD, and the case finish is matte, instead of glossy like the 250GB HDD XBox 360 S.
It does seem a bit low on storage, even for a starter machine, when HDD prices have fallen so much for PCs. I constantly have to keep deleting things off my 60GB XBox 360 and my PC's 1TB HDD is already full. ;P
