EFO iPazzPort Keyboard looks like a BlackBerry, calls your HTPC instead of your boss
In the world of the HTPC, the quest for the least inconvenient means of controlling on-screen action continues. We had a winner with the Rii Mini wireless keyboard in March, but the familiar aesthetics of this EFO iPazzPort keyboard make us want to have one lying about our coffee table. This is the newly redesigned third generation model, a big step forward from the first gen and, from the second revision, adds on function keys that can be used during bootup (for the "Hit F1 to enter BIOS" types), dedicated keys for playing and pausing and whatnot, and a laser pointer -- crucial for indicating the fatally arcing trajectories of contestants on Wipeout. All that's in addition to the already present QWERTY keyboard resting just below a functional touchpad. The cost? $45. Watching your friends try to make a call from your keyboard? Priceless.

From the Rii article - "Seems the product page has been yanked from TomTop, and one tipster says that the company is no longer replying to requests about his order. Buyer beware."
Anyone actually get a product from the company?
iPazzPort is a terrible name, but hopefully it performs better than it sounds.
@d0mth0ma5 I would definitely buy one if there were any around on ebay.
@d0mth0ma5 They are for sale on amazon or at least were in the past.
@d0mth0ma5 If you want the Rii, Dealextreme has it, along with the older versions of the ipazzport. http://www.dealextreme.com/products.dx/category.302
@d0mth0ma5
i have one in my hand right now and it works great. (the delete works weird from left to right as opposed to right to left though). i have dropped it many times and it has even split apart once or twice but still works perfectly. Also the trackpad works great with finger tap clicking on the surface instead of using the right and left mouse keys. best HTPC remote for the money.
@michaelbrandonw
I do have one rii mini, thats good product.
@d0mth0ma5
I bought it on ebay from tomtop's store. I'm honestly surprised engadget is willing to ruin the reputation of a store based on "one tipster's" word.
I payed $34 for it on their ebay uk store, including shipping to the US.
@d0mth0ma5 I bought the original product. Decent, but stiff keys.
That is a definite buy when I get my HTPC, although I'm not a huge fan of the white...
@j2daake i had the black version of tis w/ a different name. died on me after 2 weeks. its probablybecause i charged it thru outlet and not thru pc with its mini usb. Im still using the Rii keyboard. its much better. don't buy tis. this is just the black version i buoght with a different name.
@j2daake I have the black version.
I still prefer to use my Gyration brand windows media center remote / air-mouse and keyboard combo, but for $35 I picked up the black version of this and it works just as you would expect it to and has been reliable with an excellent range.
Typing on it feels just like typing on a blackberry. Works, but it is slower than typing on a laptop size wireless keyboard like on the Gyration. The touchpad likewise feels just like a laptop.
If you're happy with phone style texting and touchpad movement for your HTPC, you will be very happy with this. Great range, very slim, light weight, and battery lasts a long time and charges over simple USB.
@j2daake the black is available for pre-order
Well one more useless gadget they want us to have. No thanks. Although $45 isn't so bad. Okay I need it.
Seriously... I'm like "$45? Where's the downside?" I don't even have an HTPC and I still think I could use this.
My mind keeps saying this is completely unnecessary and unworthy... but, somehow, I feel compelled to spend my money on this O.o
I still prefer my DiNovo Edge. Looks sharp as hell, even while charging.
well i just use a small wireless keyboard for my HTPC seem way simpler, this does look nice (but looks cheap too ) good that its small , price is o.k. too, would want to see some review before buying.
Looks more like a Kindle Nano.
I just use a regular bluetooth keyboard and set it on the shelf on my coffee table when not in use.
Kindle?
8800 so cool. Ebay time now.
the name is too similar to "I spazz bort" for me to buy this.
It's the new Kmart tablet.
As long as those keys aren't completely flat, this would make a great addition for someone's HTPC in the living room.
I'd love to use one of these at work.
I like my Lenovo mini keyboard
Still no 5-way dpad. Why is it impossible for anybody to make a proper HTPC remote? You'd think nobody at these companies has ever had to juggle a remote, keyboard and mouse. Just put it all into one device and stop screwing around already. It's not that hard: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1196532

@milly123 That is the old version of the remote. This one is an improved version with full keyboard.
@Chip
I know what you mean man. I own the original version of this thing. For the most part, it is a lifesaver. I so wish it had a d-pad and a trackball instead of trackpad. Hopefully one more iteration.
Overall its a great remote folks...use mine everyday....for $40 you seriously can't go wrong.

These remotes are the worst of the worst when it comes to cheap Chinese electronics. Not only is the plastic of the McDonald's Happy Meal toy variety but the components residing on that 1970s looking board have about as much integrity as HP's ex-CEO.
@nikescar
Seriously though. Do not buy one of these. They are horrible not just in build quality but also in the way they function. Does your PC go to sleep? Well, I hope you like having to unplug the USB dongle and then plug it back in after the computer wakes up. Otherwise the remote won't work. Do you like to write in all CAPS sometimes? I hope so because the CAPS function gets stuck and then you have to shout until it decides you don't need to anymore.
Save your $40
I use the mobile air mouse and my iPad.
Is this better than that?
Hmmm. what a great device to have on the coffee table for typing on the PS3 and maybe even my laptop. I really like portrait style typing more than landscape. I can usually fly pretty fast. Interesting.
i want that keyboard on a phone. i like that dedicated number row. it reminds me of a peek
i don't really like that giant trackpad. i'd go for Logitech diNovo Mini
Hey, these guys made a white Blackberry! I bet they could help Apple solve their white iPhone problems. :-)
I have the what i believe to be the 2nd generation EFO wireless keyboard.
worked very well for the first 3 weeks and 2 drops from 3 feet (bed height).
on the 3rd drop, it just went bonkers and thats it. I've never regretted US$40 more.
the black on eis available for pre order to ship in, what looks to be two weeks, I ordered one, we shall see
