Chrome to Phone now available in Android Market
Chrome to Phone isn't a new product -- we've been using it since May, in fact -- but Google's second mobile announcement today (behind Voice Actions) is that its continuous client app is now "official" and available to all users (with Android 2.2 Froyo) via Android Market. As it was before, websites can be pushed from the Chrome browser to your Android device, with certain apps (Maps, YouTube) taking over for the browser when contextually appropriate. Additionally, the code is open, which we're hoping means this Chrome extension will find its way to other browsers. The team is "looking into" bringing the capabilities to other mobile OSs (the iPhone was specifically asked), but don't get your hopes up: nothing's been submitted, and we didn't get the feeling it was an active push. Incredibly useful? Yes, yes indeed.

Mmm, really want to import me an EVO to Canada.
gotta love google rhyme shemes
@n11
Well you'd be pretty much importing a brick, but have fun with that k ? :-P
@n11 Now make Firefox to Phone and I'm game.
@Pickaxe http://www.foxtophone.com/ ... lol
@Pickaxe
It already exists:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/161941/
@Pickaxe You can. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/161941/
@Pickaxe Lol. Pick a link. Any link.
@fpad77
For those that downranked me answer this question.
Which major Canadian carrier, bar telus, uses CDMA for data.
How many of them use Wimax.
Hence my comment stands.
@spartandre217
I think you'll be okay here, they have a thin candy shell. 'Surprised you didn't know that.
@H264
Don't follow. Guess the people that love the Evo came out in full force.
Before you downrank me again, I don't own an iPhone, im not a WP7 troll and I don't have anything against android.
@spartandre217
Hey, I'll tell you what. You can get a good look at a butcher's ass by sticking your head up there. But, wouldn't you rather to take his word for it?
@n11 Don't do it! It'll only work on CDMA (or wimax) networks, and even if you can get it unlocked (unsure), you'll have a hell of a time convincing Telus or Bell to let you use it on their network, since you can't just pop a SIM card in.
@jobeus
I TRIED explaining that to them and got downranked. Don't bother
@H264
I'm so confused by everything you say!
@H264 Richard!
@spartandre217
Forget it, I quit, I can't do this anymore, man. My head's about to explode. My whole life sucks! I don't know what I'm doing, I don't know where I'm going. My dad just died, we just killed Bambi, I'm out here getting my ass kicked and every time I drive down the road I wanna jerk the wheel into a Goddamn bridge abutment!
@H264
That's TRULY unfortunate.
@n11
I just set this up on my Evo.
It is astonishingly fast. Literally less than a third of a second after clicking, the noise sounds on my phone.
I'm thinking I'm more likely to want something to go the opposite direction though.
Sweeet. I loooooooooove Chrome :D
they just got about 5 billion more dowloads of the browser
@techee44 I've been using this push functionality alot, its absolutely brilliant.
@Wjackson25 There's also a firefox plugin by the way.
@techee44
If God used a web browser, it would be chrome.
Thank you google.e
@techee44
I was been patient but,
NOW I NEED MY FROYO UPDATE!!!
@mannyengadget Oh man, you've got that right. I was doing fine waiting for my D1 dessert treat, but now, with this and Voice Search Actions, dang. It's like a new form of torture...Android-boarding.
Now if only we could go phone to chrome, that would be awesome.
@mola Actually, you can! It's called Android2Cloud, and it works in the exact opposite direction. It's basically a chrome extension and an android app, and when you tag a page on the phone, it pushes it to your Chrome for viewing the next time you open it.
@catsgomoo Not exactly the experience I was looking for but does seem to work.
@mola
I completely get what you are saying... I've used Android2Cloud, but didnt like it much. I would prefer to have integration the actual browser itself, not a separate app. We can only hope they add this in Gingerbread to complete the loop.
Engadget was not invited to this event?
@CaliLove310 Not invited? I'm here right now!
Installing now. :D
@ChazClout
I
@Mr Blue
..fail. too click happy. i love all the googleyness lately!
@Mr Blue Made me giggle.
Chrome to phone works well but I am a bit disappointed that's all they have to announce...
Too bad they didn't pull a: Oh, and one more thing... google.com/music
Hmm So this is all news
I like how when google says these features they just throw them as if its nothing but when a certain other company makes a little feature it acts as if it is such a big thing "OMG WE RELEASED FOLDERS"
@racerbmw
It's apple, they gotta convince the sheep they're still special
@racerbmw Yea it would have been breaking news with 20 more stories covering it to follow.
@racerbmw To be fair, Engadget pretty much facepalmed when Steve demoed wallpaper for iOS4, at least that was the sense I got from reading the liveblog.
But yeah, Engadget does get carried away with Apple news.
As for the Chrome to Phone extension coming to other browsers... Send to Phone on Firefox? Hello?
@racerbmw Well..to me it seems Google just held an event to announce a new app and one new feature. Just saying.
@racerbmw
It's all about presentation. Apple uses a well- darkened room to display beautiful images of their "folders" and honestly... it looks cool. Google, on the other-hand, displays really cool new features on...::drumroll::... a faded projection screen?
I love my android phone but cmon google, learn how to sell a product!!
What about iPhone?
@Bob the Terrorist yes
@Bob the Terrorist
it died a couple o days ago didn't you hear?
sorry for your loss
@Bob the Terrorist
The iPhone also has a slick app for this, and it it's available across browsers. It's called myPhoneDesktop. Send text, pictures, sms, open maps, open websites, place calls, etc. on your phone all from your browser. It just requires bookmarklet installed on any browser and the iPhone app. Slick app.
@smeatlocker
You fail to mention however that whilst this free, myPhoneDesktop costs $4.99
That was actually a really disappointing event. I have been using Chrome-to-Phone for a while and the new voice features are cool, but I was hoping for changes to the Market and some kind of Google Music Service.
@fandroid213 Right. That would of been awesome. But oh well... probably will be announced in September.
