HTC Schubert Windows Phone 7 handset spied again -- or is it the Mozart?
Fleshing out HTC's device codenames can be difficult even after they launch, seeing how the codenames rarely make the leap to retail branding -- and the company certainly isn't making it easy with its alleged first round of Windows Phone 7 gear, either. We're pretty sure this device we're looking at here -- clearly labeled Mozart -- is exactly the same as the Schubert we saw a few days back... physically, anyway, which leaves open the possibility that the radio (or some other aspect of the internals) is different on this one. After all, Microsoft is looking to launch WinPho 7 in a bunch of countries on a bunch of carriers with a bunch of manufacturers on day one, so a couple different tri-band 3G options (for the midrange devices, anyway) would make good sense. Either that, or... you know, one of these codenames is just flat-out wrong.

Looks like the Nexus One Construction. Should be nice :)
@afinite
yeah, kinda does...
i love my incredible and android is treatin me well, but i won't lie, i am intrigued by wp7, especially if we get treated to nice looking devices
idc what the codename is, just release it already! :)
@afinite That's a MUCH better name.
@MrGoodCat
I too am very curious about how WP7 will be and how usable it will be. I will wait for about a year though before I buy any Windows phone because I always go for the sure thing, and right now that's Android.
Really?? I respect your opinion, but I personally think this phone (the back at least) is fugly...
@a dumb cat
And I just saw a pic of the front. Yup, still fugly.
@afinite I thought i saw that back before :)
@MrGoodCat I agree, and this isn't even a bad looking device. Wouldn't it be awesome if the grey plastic was like a soft grippy gel or soft touch plastic. That would be killer.
@TjK
I think the finally phone name will be Vivaldi...
da-da-da-da!
@a dumb cat
I never said it was as nice as the nexus one. Just the construction resembles it. I personally prefer the nexus design as well.
@afinite don't care what the name is. i just want one.
@afinite
I can't believe that I am saying this, but honestly, for the first time, I'm not diggin the HTC hardware. We've seen what 2-3 htc phones running windows phone 7 on em, and none have intrigued me. Asus and Dell have the better looking hardware out of what I've seen, and the Lightning will probably be mine... Unless, they leak the HD3... Now THAT would hold me back a little.
I just want the Dell Lightning...but, this might be good too....
@TheSunman89 Yeah, I wanna see that Dell Lightning spied out in the wild too. Dell is living up to their concepts with the Thunder. The Lightning is, hands down my favorite device so far of WP7's offerings.
@TheSunman89
I'm worried about how thick the Lightning is.
All of the other 4+ inch phones are slates, and compensate for their total size by being relatively thin. Sliders, otoh, tend to be much thicker. Don't think I'm down to walk around with a brick in my pocket.
@Heelo http://www.engadget.com/photos/dell-lightning-the-ultimate-windows-phone-7-device-leaks/#2915881
It's right around 15mm thick.
@TheSunman89
The Lightning looks beautiful but I'm worried about how practical it will actually be.
I've been using non QWERTY, big screen WVGA phones for 2 years now and I find that doing things in landscape view is much easier
looks kinda cool !
@Nanosman1994
I like the design as well. It kind of looks futuristic and aero-dynamic. Cool, I'm excited for WP7 to see how it stacks against the competition.
@Nanosman1994 PLAY MR MUSIC PLAY! :)
@Nanosman1994
The pattern on the back reminds me of my son's Leapster ... not that that's a bad thing ... as long as the screen is better, of course. :)
yummy, WinPho. Just no briskets please on my soup.
maybe its like a galaxy s thing
Can't wait to see what WP7 has to offer!
I'm so buying the Dell Lightning...
Just to point out in case no one knows:
Schubert - Famous Austrian Composer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Schubert
Mozart - Famous Austrian Composer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfgang_Amadeus_Mozart
They are probably the same device. Either different radios/countries/carriers or different codenames throughout production considering how the two names are so closely related.
Guess we'll see.
@DCogen Yeah, the first thing I thought of was two phones with the same body/processor/software/etc..., just different radios.
@DCogen
I thought one was going to be WP7 and one Android. Didn't both of these show up on the T-Mobile roadmap that got posted a month or two back?
@StalkyTheFish
What roadmap are you looking at? Only one I've seen is this one:
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/07/is-this-a-real-leaked-t-mobile-roadmap/
Wish they would hurry up an announce these phones officially and more importantly which carriers they will come to.
Am I the only one who no longer really cares about Win Mobile 7 phones? I just don't.
@steel
You're the only one.
@steel Know what are saying there. After all the reboots lockups etc of every single windows mobile I ever owned, seem to put me off anything else phone like from MS..
@steel
No matter that youve been down ranked, i too am over Windows 7. Its trying to be hip and cool and "different" but none of it translates into innovation. Its bland and pointless. If you want a locked in OS with superior hardware go with iPhone, if you want an open OS with heaps of hardware options go with Android. Business users also have the choice of Blackberry. WinMo has no place any more, no demographic. If your late to the party Microsoft, at least try to be revolutionary. They are gonna have to pull something really great and never seen before to win me over im afraid. The bad memories of my WinMo 2003, 5 and 6 phones are still in the back of my brain.
@Adamgs
I think you described the demographic yourself, sir: what if one wants the benefits of the "locked down" ecosystem of the iPhone in addition to the variety of handsets? Not to mention Xbox Live, that's kind of a biggie.
okay some some stats on it please?
somewhy I don't like the design of the phone though...
@sinkingshriek Maybe it will come with a free case to improve the signal & look?
Weird, I just watched "The Young Victorian" last night...it has to be the Schubert LOL
Schubert??? Please don't insult Schubert by name this ugly phone after a one of the greatest classical composers. I mean which part of the back plate design is timeless and classic? They should call it New Kids On The Block or Colour Me Bad or Vinnilla Ice or some............LOL
Awesome! This should be in the top stories!
"so a couple different tri-band 3G options"
Nah, this is HTC we're talking about, this will be dual-band.
@pika2000
LMFAO! come on dude, give em some credit
Man, that looks cheap and plasticy - very tacky
@SExpress
Yeah I would not be caught dead with that thing, it would turn heads for the Wrong reasons
@fatjoe3
Yup, no shit, I've had a few deleted in the past couple days.
What a job -- to sit around on your fat ass deleting comments that call them out on their BS. Wonder how much that pays...
@fatjoe3 Wow, do you really have nothing more productive to be doing with your time?
That guy on twitter has a bunch of interesting pics of phone specs and the winmo 7 phone front.
@fatjoe3 Lol. You made a whole WordPress about it.
