HTC Droid Incredible finally returns to stock, not a moment too soon
If the rumors of an August 18th Android 2.2 update prove true, we'd say Verizon Wireless couldn't have picked a better time to get HTC's Droid Incredible back in stock. 'Course, we suspect you'll think differently if you've been waiting for your backorder to clear over the past few weeks, but we digress. As of this moment in time, the handset -- which has been tough to get thanks to AMOLED shortages -- is in stock and shipping as early as today, with an unchanged $199.99-on-contract price tag. Better hurry if you're looking to buy -- who knows when those panels will hit yet another production snag.

@GuardianAli link?
@tyrex I'd agree with you but the Incredible comes with a crappy AMOLED screen that you can barely see outside (compared to the iPhone 4's awesome IPS LCD or even the SAMOLED fitted Galaxy S). If they put a SAMOLED in this and 2.2, it would be a near perfect Android device.
Where the hell are the damn Evos. Id appreciate if one of these stores around here would have them in stock. Only thing they have in stock is a damn waiting list.
I waited this long already for the HTC Incredible. I think I'm going to holdout for the possibility of getting an Iphone. Crossing Fingers!!!!
Why do I get the distinct feeling that these phones have Sony's Super LCD screen instead of AMOLED ones. I remember the VZW website used to tout that the screen was AMOLED, now it just says 3.7" HD screen. If that's the case, that would be a big disappointment. Side-by-side, the colors are so much more vibrant than my Droid X's.
@wcw001 Bad news for you... HTC has moved off AMOLED to the SLCD. I for one am waiting for Fascinate to arrive. Hell, I can't easily jump until November anyway, and I bet by then the 3.0 ROMs will be floating around for a ROOTED Fascinate... Can't wait!
@wcw001 They did. That's why its becoming easier to make them. AMOLED is awesome, but it was ridiculous how hard it was to supply them. They lose potential customers the longer they wait.
@wcw001
They've done that for all the phones. I got my Desire before they started using the SLCD screens from Sony. Samsung just cant keep up with demand and want to keep all their precious SAMOLED screens for their own phones.
@wcw001 Not a far comparison since the X doesn't have a S-LCD
@wcw001 they're all wrong. Because the nexus and desire switched to slcd, there was enough for the incredible.
The incredible has and will always have an AMOLED screen, which looks way better than the x's imo.
After coming from an droidX with broken exchange support going back to a device like the Incredible with Active Sync, you appreciate the device all the more.
I still haven't gotten the update for 720P video.... so I'm guessing I'll be waiting even longer for FroYo
@LowSky It didn't happen. It'll be apart of the Froyo update.
LOL VZW had this planned out. "Let's not ship anymore until we get Froyo ready." haha oh well. 2 more days till Froyo!!!! maybe
finally I can buy an outdated phone that I wanted months ago!
@victorstuber
Please explain how it's outdated. I'll wait.
@victorstuber Yeah, I'm curious about that too.
@ror Don't get me wrong I love the droid incredible, but lets face it, phones get replaced faster than ever before. smaller screen, lack of hdmi, front facing camera etc
@victorstuber really how much do you need hdmi and a front faced camera? Bragging rights. I don't understand the fluff on those two features.
Incredible 2 ?
@chase1963 Incredibler, soon to be replaced by the Incrediblest.
@PrezBO Hahah they'll probably just make the Incredible HD :D
I was just thinking about this phone and whether or not it was in stock.
I had to wait 2 weeks for mine to ship but it was so worth the wait
I finally just went with the X. I was holding out to compare the Droid 2 to the Incredible and X, and since I had to wait anyway, I just went with the X. I definitely think not having it in stock hurt. Because I personally, would have gone with the Incredible if Verizon had them when I was shopping.
Does this mean we can expect EVO in stock on sprint.com?
Whats funny too is that Sprint's Wimax has no real reason to call itself 4G. It is nowhere near the speeds it needs to be to claim 4G. It is Sprint's way of duping people into going to them. Have fun ceasing to exist when real 4G rolls out and people realize the lies.
@navysqrrl I still choose the EVO over anything else out there and I don't even use the 4g, but I bought it off contract to avoid the etf, when real 4g arrives...
@Dwillycom Smart move :D
Having had a good long look at the new Telus Desire (with the S-LCD screen instead of the AMOLED) I was pretty impressed. WAY better looking display than what's found on a N1/Desire/Incredible.
Long story short, the S-LCD is a NICE upgrade over the AMOLED version. Sharper text, brighter display, at the loss of some black blacks...colour saturation on the S-LCD is not that far off the AMOLED either, and more natural to boot.
@Croak How was the visibility in sunlight? I'm on a Desire myself, but I'm still within my carrier's return window, and while I love the phone, if the LCD version is better I might as well return mine and get that.
@KirkyX
Much better, direct comparison to a Nexus One outside the store left no doubt. Maybe even better than my Galaxy S by a slight bit, for that matter, and the S-AMOLED on that is quite usable outdoors.
Meh. Old model. When's the next one?
Finally got mine today...woohoo. (been on the waiting list for a month)
hopefully Froyo shows up soon.
Now it is shipping the 18th, thanks to Engadget lol
It's a weird but exciting thing to think many view this phone as outdated already! Geez things are moving so fast. Such a great phone- I only wish it were a 4-inch screen. Josh Tops & Co. are right, the difference between a 3.7 and 4 inch screen can be significant to some.
@nickux
Many are dumb.
i dont wanna carry a larger screen in my hands. so please HTC and the others, do not listen those nerd big handed guys around and keep manufacturing smaller screens please. man, for the sake of the large screens, you will be ok for carrying android TVs in your hands, i can see even now.
I like my Legend better. Its the same AMOLED display, a bit smaller though, but with a sleek aluminium unibody and a gorgeous form factor. The CPU? Meh, as long as it scrolls smoothly which it does.
Sorry folks, Froyo on the Incredible for the 18th got denied by VZW, will be pushed back again.
@WinMoRezzer UGH!! This is taking too long =(
its worse because my friend messaged me early this morning waking me up saying she got the update and bragging
