New iPhone, iPad model codes set up for iTunes activation bypass -- CDMA versions, maybe?
So BGR's got a tipster lined up with alleged details from within iOS 4 beta firmware that shows a section dedicated to bypassing the usual iTunes activation scheme for three new product codes: iPhone3,2, iPhone 3,3, and iProd 2,1. Actually, these product codes aren't "new," per se; we saw all three of them in the iPad's firmware back in April, but they've yet to make the giant leap to officialdom. What's different here, then? Well, apparently, this activation-bypass scheme has historically had a tendency to show up in Apple's beta firmware right around the time a new iPhone goes into testing -- ostensibly so that field engineers don't need to worry about that rigmarole to do their jobs -- which suggests that these new models are getting ready for action. BGR's source says these will be the CDMA iPhone and the next-gen iPad, though you can't tell that from the product codes alone, and that doesn't explain why we've actually got two new iPhones listed. For what it's worth, the current iPad -- iPad1,1 -- used to go by the moniker iProd1,1 in firmware, so it stands to reason that we really are looking at a new tablet here. Now if you'll excuse us, we've got some Verizon Wireless field tech van recon to do.

@Dasuchin
cdma better signal reliability than gsm here in the US that is why people in the US prefer cdma less dropped calls better call quality
@periks19
thats the complete opposite of my experience. verizon was shit as far as call quality and signal reliability goes. at&t has been much better
@Dasuchin same here too.... verizon was horrible here in houston and att is awesome.... the same for customer service verizon sucks crap and att is awesome...
Also it dosent matter if GSM didnt have it at first. CDMA still dosent have voice+data at the same time. That makes it better
CDMA dosent have SIM's here..... GSM does no re-activating or having to call someone or anything... just pop the sim out and put it in another phone.... That makes it superior
GSM phones can go on different networks with an unlock that is available usually by the carrier (NOT IPHONE) ATT gave me my Samsung Impression and Eternitys unlock codes while i was traveling. The iPhone can be unlocked by themselves, only firmware updates stopping them.. Verizon people that own droids go to another country and get them activated..... no prepaid easiness for you guys in other countries..... That makes it superior
If you have a different phone sitting around, and your current one breaks or somethings happens, you can pop out your sim and get most of your contacts without calling anyone... That makes it superior
What does CDMA have over GSM dont give me the signal crap... Ive had verizon and it didnt show me that.... even then thats only one thing.....
@iPhonemyphone
I don't know what part of Houston you are hanging out in, but i have Verizon, and get signal everywhere I go in H-town. My sister in law, who has an iphone on ATT here is always dropping calls, not being to send out texts, etc. Seems to me like you must be hanging out under an ATT tower in order for you to get such a great signal with them and not with VZW.
@Dasuchin
+1 I currently have Verizon, I don't know why people like them so much. I've experienced nothing but poor call quality.
If apple really wants to have the top mobile os. They need to release this on sprint as well just not verizon and get it on other cdma networks around the world as well.
@periks19 or maybe go Google Nexus-1 style on our ars... :)
What happened to the 80% chance iphone comes to tmobile? Maybe that's the second iphone code leak. If apple has any brains they would announce both togather, verizon iphone and tmobile iphone.
Yea, I'm sorry. Not a CDMA/Verizon Fan. Even if the iPhone goes to Verizon, I'll keep myself on good ol' AT&T. I don't know why I take this whole CDMA iPhone deal person but it does, it bothers me. Haha, at the end of the day, I'm brand & carrier loyal. Apple & AT&T = Perfect (for me)
I find it surprising that Apple hasn't been filling in fake product codes to throw people off.
More likely the new iPod touch models with Facetime
You know I'm tired of Giz and Engadget just ASSUMING this will be Verizon. For all we know it's Sprint or better yet BOTH. The both idea would solve an issue we are all worried about which is over usage on one specific network. I'm just tired of people thinking Verizon is better in cell service when you get OVER CHARGED and LESS SERVICE when compared to Sprint. But whatever. Apple can do whatever they want. I hope they don't do what all the lemmings do and jump to number 1 or 1a in Cell companies. I mean Apple made ATT number 1 or 1a. It used to be a close battle between the three if anyone actually remembers. I hope they see Sprint as a true partner that will actually fight for the customer like Apple tries to do I guess and not try and screw the customer over with money or at least try not to do it ALL the time like ATT or VERIZON.
umm what
Search with keyword "iSpirit" in google.
I don't know for the rest of you, but I see major holes in every theory that I hear about - this is truly mind boggling... Just what the heck is Apple up to??
My most logical guess at the moment would be a Cdma/LTE-ready iPhone.
Most of you guys are idiots. It will be CDMA/LTE and that's not me speculating. Will it come out in January? Not known, no contract signed yet, negotiations are ongoing.
