Acer goes wider
It took them a little while, but Acer has a 17-inch widescreen laptop of its own on the way. And it's a monster of a laptop. Weighing in at almost 16 pounds, the Aspire 1710, which hits tomorrow, is just about the heaviest portable computer we've seen since perhaps the late Eighties.
On the other hand, with all that heft you do get a massive screen, a 3GHz processor, an 120GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, a DVD burner, and built-in 802.11g.
