At least one team qualifies for the Grand Challenge
Giving us hope that at least one team will be able to compete in the Grand Challenge (the robotic road race from LA to Las Vegas taking place this Saturday), is the news that the Sandstorm, a tricked-out Humvee built by Carnegie Mellon University, was able yesterday to successfully complete the 1.36 mile test course that's serving as a qualifying round. Though the picture at right of the Sandstorm, which flipped over during a trial run last week, doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence in them. UPDATE: Apparently this whole thing of only one team qualifying for the actual road race worried DARPA, which was sponsoring the event, so they relaxed the rules, and are going to let teams that didn't complete the qualifier compete on Saturday.
