Consumer groups trying to stop Cingular/AT&T Wireless merger
Not that we expect this to make a bit of difference, but the Consumers Union and the Consumer Federation of America have filed a petition with the FCC to stop the proposed merger of AT&T Wireless and Cingular, saying that in lots of places it would result in an non-competitive local cellphone market. We would have complained more that combining two companies with poor service will merely result in one massive company with abysmal service, though we're not totally sure that the FCC can (or would) stop a merger on those grounds.
