Gadgets that talk to each other?

What if your phone sounded an alarm and said "Hey iTunes, play a random song" and your computer then did just that?
Well, Christian Cantrell is playing around with that very idea, having all of his devices communicate using voice as the protocol. On his site he has some examples, including some cool ideas with x10, like a PDA "talking" to a lamp through the Internet to turn it on and off. With most modern computers being able to recognize speech commands (this is built into Mac OS X) it might actually be easier to do some things with devices literally talking to each other as opposed to using Bluetooth, WiFi and lots of other stuff that doesn't always quite work the way you want it to.
