Sure, you could send out an SOS via telegraph or a mayday by radio, but why go through all that trouble when you could just paint your iPod orange? Because,
afterall, according to the Department of Boating and Waterways, the iPod is an internationally recognized distress signal, along with flares, code flags, dye markers, and arm-waving patterns. So if you need to save yourself on the high seas, you can either fire a gun at one minute intervals or hold up your (orange) iPod, and they'll be sure to rescue you. Seriously.
