TRON 2.0, killer app?
Remember that cutting-edge 80's sci-fi with Jeff Bridges? Of course you do. Well, 20-something years later, Tron is back, albeit with bad timing. With less than a week to go before the launch of the most-hyped Xbox game in history, Tron 2.0: Killer App will be quickly forgotten, or rather, never even noticed. Still, it's an interesting concept, combining first-person shooting with action-adventure platforming elements, and some trippy cycling thrown in for good measure. The developer has really captured the Tron aesthetic, rendering the world in bright neon colors devoid of any texture. It may take some getting used to, but spend enough time in the game and you will begin to really appreciate the atmosphere, including the musical selection. However, because the game was ported over from the PC, it's taken some technical hits (primarily in frame rate), but the comprehensive Live feature that was added, rounds out a package that is worthy of its $40 price tag. If you're looking to kill time over the next five days, or if you're a fan of the movie, Tron 2.0 is no gimick, but rather a surpisingly unique title, well worth a look.
