Melodeo wants to offer music downloads to your cellphone
The whole thing about how they think they're going to trump the iPod is a little ridiculous, since Apple has already announced plans to partner with Motorola to put iTunes on cellphones, but there's a new startup based in Seattle called Melodeo that has managed to raise over $20 million in funding by painting a vision of how their music download service for cellphones is eventually going to make the iPod obsolete. Not that music downloads aren't coming to cellphones or anything, it's just that the wireless carriers are in the driver's seat here and even a clever startup with great technology isn't going to get anywhere if the big boys don't want to play ball (they haven't gotten any carriers onboard yet). And do we even need to mention how most cellphones lack the memory to store more than a few songs or the connection speeds to make downloading anything other than excruciating?
