HD-DVD isn't dead yet, gets backing from four major movie studios
Toshiba would like to remind everyone that HD-DVD isn't dead yet, announcing today that they had gotten four major movie studios—Warner Bros. Studios, Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, and New Line Cinema—to commit to start releasing their movies in the HD-DVD format by the end of next year. Blu-ray, HD-DVD's main rival in the battle to succeed DVD as the format of choice for high-definition, has the backing of Sony Pictures and MGM (both of which are owned by Sony, one of the creators of Blu-ray), as well as Twentieth Century Fox, which mainly means we're in for yet another VHS vs. Betamax format war where everyone loses and most people will probably hold off buying players and discs in either format until there's a clear winner.
