SolarPC kicks that dirty 400-watt PC habit
We had no idea that apparently America's computer industry has a 138 million crude oil barrel a year habit, and is obviously a culprit of global warming and our foreign dependence on oil. Sure, our total oil consumption is about 6.57 billion barrels per year, but for those looking for a machine that's a little more green, there's the SolarPC. They're not really much more than extremely low-power boxes that can run on a 12v current (what you can get off a solar panel,
for instance), but you've got to hand it to 'em, that's some seriously low voltage. And for working the low-end Beowulf cluster card, that's hype. Oh, and they start at under $190 a pop. Who knew?
