TiVo gives away a couple thousand TiVos yesterday

Anyone actually head to TiVo HQ yesterday to scoop up one of those
free 40 hour Series 2 TiVo boxes they were giving away yesterday? They had 2,000 of them to give away to anyone who brought in a copy of their Comcast cable bill
(Comcast recently launched a digital video recording service in parts of the Bay Area) and a gift for The Family Giving Tree Charity, and was willing to stand in line for a few hours. Apparently over 2,500 people showed up, so they gave everybody else who didn't get a free TiVo a coupon for an extra fifty bucks off the already-rebated price of the DVR,
which would bring the price down to $49.99 (one caveat: they have to use the coupon before midnight tonight). The free TiVos also don't include free monthly service, which can set you back $12.95 a month or $299 for the lifetime of the product; since the 40 hour TiVo is at the end of its product cycle anyway (we still use our 14 hour box!), this wasn't just a publicity stunt, it's also a cheap way for them to add a couple of thousand households to their subscriber base.
