Build your own Windows Media Center PC

DIY Media Center

For the first couple years of its existence Microsoft wouldn't let you buy a standalone version of Windows XP Media Center Edition, but this time around, with the release of the 2005 Edition they decided to ease up a little. The big question is, what are you going to do with it now that you can? You could install it on some PC you already have, but wouldn't you rather totally rule and build your own Media Center PC from the ground up? ExtremeTech has all the details for anyone up to the challenge, but don't expect to save a lot of money just because you're geeking out and going the DIY route — the final cost tally clocks in around two grand.
