Ringtone "record label" launched

If you needed another sign that the ringtone craze has gotten totally out of hand, here's one: there's now a "record label" devoted exclusively to them. BlingTones, part of Lagardere Active North America's group of mobile content offerings (others include Car and Driver Mobile and ELLE Mobile), is set to release exclusive ringtones from artists such as Missy Elliot, Jay-Z, 50 Cent and Eminem. The company also plans to offer "BlingPix," a range of urban-inspired screensavers and wallpaper. We're still waiting for someone to come up with the cellphone version of
TV-B-Gone, to zap those tones we just can't stand to hear again. At the very least, BlingTones might help by increasing the variety out there.
