JVC's combination Blu-ray/DVD disc
Oh, come on now, you didn't honestly think that the peeps behind the Blu-ray disc were going to let Toshiba and Memory-Tech get away with making an HD-DVD that was backwards compatible with regular DVD players, did you? This is war, and since every attack requires a counter-attack, JVC
has stepped up to the plate and developed a 33.5GB optical disc that squeezes in both a 25GB layer of Blu-ray and an 8.5GB DVD dual-layer that can be read by a standard DVD player. So just like with that backwards-compatible HD-DVD that was announced a few weeks back, these discs will also be able to store a high-def version of a film for playback on a Blu-ray player and a standard-definition version so you can watch it on the DVD player you have now.
