The crystal ball display

Researchers at the University of Toronto are at work on a "volumetric" display, which will allow users to control virtual objects using finger gestures on and around the surface of a crystal ball... kinda thingy. The researchers envision the display being used for graphical applications, including architecture and design. Looks sweet, but the researchers don't expect any practical applications for 10-20 years. Hey, Nintendo and Sony, get on this. If you ask us, it's a perfect game controller, and we don't want to wait a decade to use it.
