Just in case you're a pirate, Fujitsu Siemens gets extra taxes
This is about the weakest way to rustle up some extra tax dollars we've ever heard: the Munich District Court has mandated that Fujitsu Siemens cough up €12 (about $16 US) on the sale of every one of their computers because an evil nasty warez pirate guy might be the one buying it to use for nefarious purposes. We're not entirely sure where that money is supposed to be going (we're gonna take a wild guess and estimate little or none of it's actually getting back to the utterly countless copyright holders victim to copyright infringement) but while they're at it maybe the court should also start heavily taxing manufacturers of photocopiers, radios with cassette recorders, and stationary-makers
(some people still write by hand, right?) — after all, if we don't stop those diabolical, villainous pirates now, when
will we stop them?
